I pick up Ashley @ 3:45 across the street on the corner.
So Im pulling up & see 2 kids walking east(Normal) then heres a Motorcycle cop he STOPS & THROWS down on them!
I'm like WTF So I gotta turn around where I pick her up so I turn in the driveway I Allways do & ease back up now there DIRECTILY across the street from me. Now he's patting them down still has his weapon in his hand.
Rolls the kid over & DAYUM theres an AUTOMATIC sticking out of his waist band.
He tells the kid DONT MOVE & now other cops are arriving He leans down an removes said Weapon Another cop is patting the other kid. I see him holster his weapon & drop the Mag (I could SEE it was LOADED!)
Clears it OUT pops the one in the breach.
Now I see Ashley comming up the street a teacher is waving her to go this way((There right @ the cross walk so she was redricted to go across & then walk down to me)
First Question outta my Mouth Do you know those kids?????
They looked about her age 12 1/2 its a Middle school.
I think one said he was 16 could not hear the others responce.
This kids life is OVER! Both of them.
After I had Ashley I left they were still on the ground.
The School has a golf cart that has Security & a Real cop & she knew me & knew Right where I was sitting is where I pick her up every day so there was no problems with me sitting there & I talked to her a minute she told me talk to her tomorrow, So I'll get the WHOLE SCOOP in the morning or after school. I CANT BELEAVE IT! Ashley could not beleave it & I made a Lesson of it though I said SEE if you EVER see a gun DONT pick it up those two kids thought it was "COOL" to be carrying a gun & Look what it got them
She Knows Me & Momma have guns & I'm teaching her but DAYUM.
Never figured I see THIS!

This is what you get when so much of society demonizes guns. most kids are simply taught that they are bad and thats that. So whats the first thing they are going to do when they get a chance to get one? Get it and show all their friends how cool it is.
I believe in teaching them young and letting them hold and shoot them the right way. To respect them. The mystery is then gone.
Ask either of my young children what to do if they see one laying somewhere and they will respond: "Stop. Don't touch. Leave the area. Tell an adult."
....and by golly, it worked! My son was 9yrs old and was in my father-in-law's room when some furniture was being moved. There was an old forgotten .22 revolver on the floor where a dresser once stood. He left the room and told his mother about it. The gun was right where he said it was with a layer of dust on it. NO little fingerprints on it:).
Education. Not demonization.

Guns in schools are way more common than you would even think. Kids with problems have all kinds of goofy junk going round in their heads. Usually they hide them in their wall lockers. Fifteen years back, I was teaching at a suburban school and we found a pistol in a kid's wall locker;;;; and worse part was I knew the parents; were friends in the community. More times than not, administrations try to cover it up any way they can. It makes the papers and everybody goes nuts. Then it's the fault of the principal on down.

Kids see thugs driving new expensive cars, expensive clothes, women, etc.. Dude, how did you get all that stuff..sellin drugs, kid. Show me your stuff, kid. Then the thug shows the kid his piece.
Kid get a piece, stands on a corner watching for the heat so he can tell his new found friend. Shortly, the kid has his own stash, and on the way to real cash.....prison....death.
A kid with a gun in school here doesn't make the headlines unless he shoots somebody. This murder capital of the state, 20 and under are the ones killing, and being killed. Old news.

IF the kid is under the age of 18 it is no big deal as to screwing up his life! That is the sad part. he is concidered a juvinile and it will be in his juvi record and sealed. IF he stays out of trouble after this, he will be able to do anything he wants INCLUDING joining the military. You would be suprised at how many in the military ranks today were once gang bangers and have most likely been involved in serious crimes before they turned 18. Many even brag about it. About the only thing kids today learn from being caught with a gun or otehr serius crimes is to make sure to NOT get caught after you turn 18!

Wow!
I'm glad everything turned out all right, the outcome of this could have been much different. The kids just think their cool having a gun, and don't think about or realize what the consequences can be. I remember when I was in middle school, and that was a bad age. We were little hodlums, no longer kids and on our way to adult hood, so we thought we were bad and cool. We didn't carry guns, but most of us carried swicth blades. I don't think anyone ever used one, but it was cool to have one and flash it around. This was the time period when that movie Cross and the Switch Blade came out, so we had our little gangs.

RAVEN I cant wait to find out the story from the lady officer that knows me.
I Dont think he go's to this middle school (I Hope not atleast).
I was Dumbfounded I could not beleave it.
If my pops caught me with a gun (NOT with him) he woulda beat my azz,
I bet these kids got lack of parental supervision Both of them.
but ya never know one may of had NO Idea the other had it,
Highly unlikely but could be. (A follower)
Your dead on with seeing the thugs & geting in on it them-selfs its a crying shame what this countrys going to. I bet you have seen this first hand but I havent & sat there with my jaw in my lap.
At first I was like WTF throwing down hard on them, but now that I saw what happened I'm pretty sure he MUST of knowen they had it, just by the way it went down.
Just the thought of something happening
(Him stoned or wired & tryed to pull it shoot-out by the middle school kids all pouring out of the school it could of been REAL BAD)
And I'm sure you know of whats next for him, nothing but bad!
I'm sure theres some law about being with-in so many feet of the school he gets that one,,, plus minor in posession,,,, carrying a concealed weapon
& if he had anything else on him,,,if he already had trouble with the law
Where did the weapon come from An unresponcible parent? stolen?
More charges & the parent well what happens if its one of his?
this can be nothing but bad for the parent also (THERE OWN FAULT)
Do I feel sorry for him? Yea in a way. You know he had no proper training heck if any at all.
BUT maybe its best thing for him instead of being shot down in the streets.
As I said it Was loaded I saw the mag & him clear it,, one flew out so it was ready to rock.
When I got home I was shaking so bad while typing this I Dubble posted it.
Shocked is an understatement.

WOW, when I was that age the worst we did was cut class and slip out back for a cig, and I'm only 40.
I believe most states have laws about having firearms within a certain distance of schools making it a major felony, he very well could be charged as an adult.

That is a case where the father obviously did not take the time to train his child. More than likely, the father did not known what real gun safety is. That could have turned out much worse. Glad all is ok Mac.

I was dropping my son off at school one day. I can't believe what I saw a car with NRA plates that read mr gun it had firearms stickers on the rear window and even one of them offensive infidel stickers on it. I can't believe they would let one of THOSE people work around kids in an elementary school.
OH wait sorry that was my car.... Never mind....
As for the kids I'm sure that their lives were over long before that cop came into their lives...

Unfortunately jjmitchell was right. Since these kids are under 18 they will go to juvenile court. Those kids are handled entirely differently than regular court. At least in Texas, they aren't found guilty of a felony. They are found "guilty of engaging in delinquent conduct" and usually given probation for about the first fifty offenses.
If the judge really gets tired of seeing them in court, he *might* send them off for a while, but their record as a juvenile is sealed and no record exists after they turn 18. They have a clean slate. Remember, they simply "engaged in delinquent conduct" they didn't commit a crime. Then they can join the military, get a job, whatever they want to do. No record exists. Not saying this is right, it's just what happens.

.
Not here in South Dakota. That has changed. The neighbor's kid is a convicted felon. He is now 15, he was 13 at the time he stole some kids expensive ass bike. Will it go by by at 18? Yes but kids here in S.D. can and do get charged with felonys.
The youngest kid ever sent to the Penn. when i worked there was 14 he's there for life.
Robed and shot a cab driver In the face. Killing him.

Holy crap!!!!!! If i would have ever did that wow i dont think i would have ever lived to see the next day!!!! Mom and dad would have used the whole apple tree on my butt! I still dont like to see that apple tree in thier back yard!! To many times i had a switch from that tree. Not to say the last time i got it, i had to cut my own switch. OUCH did that hirt.
Yeah, it would be good to have a School meeting about this incident. I'm sure many parents with children in that school will be shocked and angry about this.
I certainly would be, and demand such a meeting.
The Principle now has a responsibility to explain what will happen next and listen to the community. No, it is not his/her fault a student came to school with a pistol but it has now become his/her job to answer to it.
I also believe there is a social responsibility element about this. Were it me, I would ask the parents of the kid to stand on stage also and explain to the community what happened here. It does have a lot to do with the parents.
Please give us the follow-up on this.
We were all kids to @ one point, but taught better & Smarter.
I for one am humble enough to admit that though I was taught better -I was not smarter and had to learn the hard way.
I consider myself lucky not to be rotting in jail. I think that every time I walk out of State Prison after leading meditation classes for the inmates.

Capt Mac, If this is a surprise. consider yourself lucky to be in Pompano. I assure you it wouldn`t raise an eyebrow in the northern hinterland of Jacksonville. Agreeing with my LEO brother that with 35 years on the street nothing surprised me much. Too many children to count that were armed. Picked up a runaway 9 year old several years ago and after a quick pat down put him in the back seat. After deposit at the shelter found a loaded 38 revolver under my front seat. Perhaps this may give you pause when you hear about an LEO "over-reacting when dealing with a "child". Those experiences are the ones that make you jump on a night you can`t fall right to sleep.
To Dennis and others that are wondering where the parents are and lamenting their childhood and the consequences had they done this. You are the parents....each and everyone one of us that has paid confiscatory taxes and had it go to support the unwilling to work and support their children. The Govt.(You) has taken on the role of parent and is and has done a pitiful job. These kids and thousands more are the product of "The Great Society" and every give away program that preceded and followed it. If we don`t wake up and put someone in office that will turn it around we are done.

OK heres the deal I know SO far.
I saw the lady Officer today turns out there was a home Burgerly
right down the street from the school. (Reported @ 3:21 I think she said)
The Lady reporting this told the Dispatcher,
She saw 3 boys leaving the backyard of her neighbours home, one carring several long boxs.
And advised the dispatcher 2 were walking east on 6th st toward the school & the one carrying several boxs got into a white car with a waiting driver & drove away. Then gave a detailed Discription of the 2 that walked away & the car.
And advised the dispatcher she Knew there were GUNS in the house because he went hunting all the time.
SO the police had a GOOD Reason to pull them over I guess he was Assuming they HAD A WEAPON.
NOW I have NO PROBLEM with the way he threw down on them.
The Car,, Driver & guy carring the boxs were never located.
(I'm Sure there gonna be asking the other guys names from the two, I saw getting arrested.)
It turns out there 16 & 17
They DONT go to her school they were just walking by.
God forbit this kid trys to pull it,, theres HUNDREDS of kids everywhere!
What Piss'es me off is this happened about 3:40 Schools out 3:45
WHY DIDENT THEY LOCK DOWN THE SCHOOL?
They lock it down for other stuff, (Hell hard rain one time)
Why not NOW when you know there "Might be Trouble"!
I went in to talk to the Principle today, he was Not in today, but I made an Appt. for tomorrow after I drop Ashley @ 9:15 Start time!
I'm No prude but I'm sure theres ALLOT of parents that dident hear about this & I wanna know, are they gonna address this? And How?
send home Flyers,, the automated call thing thats calls your home if your kid misses a class?
They should of Never let the kids out!
I'm not sure who's really @ fault the School,, (Were they warned in time?)
I THINK SO the Officer knew about it BEFORE the kids were all walking out.
I would think someone shoulda said
(Well if there might be Kids with Guns walking past the school maybe we should hold the kids for X amount of time.)
I woulda been Fine with that.
LOL I'm Sure it's not gonna be a 5 minute thing. & I think Momma might be going with me. She's PO'ed also.
Am I wrong for trying to get INVOLVED? I'm doing it for the SAFTEY of the KIDS!

Alrighty, another two cents. Political correctness is the contributing reason for brat kids in today's world.
My grandparents raised me..yes sir..no sir..yes mam, no mam..and thank you. There were NO alternatives. I was not allowed to speak at the dinner table, and when I was done it was Excuse Me. If I wanted to do something outside the house, it was May I Please?, then, Thank You.
No excuses accepted for a bad report card. If I got out of line at school, the Mother Superior would take me in the hall, and whack me across the back of my hands with a ruler.. It only happened once, lesson learned.
When I was very small, I remember sitting on my grandfathers foot, and being rocked hard, and laughing my butt off. Today, he would be locked and investigated for possible child molestation or abuse.
Today, if a Nun/teacher would use a ruler on them, they would spend several years in jail.
If one of my grandparents smacked me up side the head for screwing up, they would be jailed.
I went out the back yard gate and took off. I was around 9-10 yrs old. When I was found, a limb off a willow tree was used on my legs. I never did it again. Today, well, they would not only go to jail, they'd lose their home and everything else they had.
Kids know well once they hit puberty, or earlier, you better not touch them. They will call the cops, or one of their friends' parents will.
If you don't give them what they want, they'll steal it out of your wallet or a stash. And what are you going to do? Make them go to bed w/o dinner? NO. Spank them? No. What can you do to them, like was done to me, to get their attention and know they've learned their lesson? Nothing.
MY way of life was taught to me in a way I'll never forget. And contrary to popular belief, I have yet to get on top of any building and shoot at people because I was, in new-speak, abused. I was never abused, and regardless of the circumstances that created them raising me, I am very grateful that they showed me tough love.

Well, there's always the truth, and it's always worth waiting for before we go after folks and try to demonize them. The danger, otherwise a lynch-mob mentality grows in the name of "democracy" and innocents get hurt.

That question is the essence of "Political Correctness": to err on the side of safety. There's always going to be some people who will think that idea a pain in the ass, leads to greater confusion, creates more harm than good... even call it a Police State.
But to you, and every other parent who faced danger for their loved ones, lock-down would have seemed perfectly reasonable. One's Point-of-View.

Excellent work. That is the beginnings of community involvement. Many parents may be feeling the same frustration and fears for their children going to that school. No one parent can do anything, but a community of people can move mountains of bureaucracy BS to get straight answers and help prevent problems in the future.

When I was that age I had two firearms of my own already. My father gave them to me, along with enough common sense to know not to carry them around illegally!
The common sense was the greater gift.
Still have the guns and hopefully some of the common sense is left too.

It's cause of all these 'Gangs.' They recruit, then just give the kid a gun, that's how a lot of people around where I live get them. And I remember seeing a post not to long ago about gangs tagging cars that were at gun shops, guess what I spotted on the truck after going in and getting some dog food? A little sticker with the #13. I peeled it off, showed it to the dude inside, he called the cops let them know about it.
