Congressional Dems Introduce Amendment To Make Self Defense Illegal
Filed under Gun Control, News, Politics {163 Comments and 76 Reactions}
The Congressional Progressive Caucus has announced it will introduce legislation designed to strip Americans of the right to defend themselves. Called “Stop Shoot First Laws,” the amendment to the Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill under consideration in the House would deny states federal funding allocated under section 505 of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 if they continue to allow citizens to defend themselves.
“Shoot first laws have already cost too many lives,” said Progressive Caucus co-chairs Keith Ellison and Raul Grijalva upon introducing their amendment. “In Florida alone, deaths due to self-defense have tripled since the law was enacted. Federal money shouldn’t be spent supporting states with laws that endanger their own people. This is no different than withholding transportation funds from states that don’t enforce seatbelt laws.”
“The message here is if you have this kind of law that your federal funding is going to take a hit because they make states less safe,” Adam Sarvana, communications director for Grijalva, told Politico.
Well, who'd a thunk it? Progressives trying to outlaw self defense.
Come and take it :eek::mad::D:D:D

Just remember, liberals have a mental blockage that is very dangerous and really should be considered an illness. We cant be expected to understand it. They just make stuff up and throw it out there and the lunatic media runs with it. Wack jobs, all of them.

That bill will probably be announced as Save Social Security..Save Medicare..Save Our Schools..Women's Rights..Gay Rights..muslim rights..Planned Parenthood Protection..
Or, already in the obozocare bill.
Another one of those bills where the GOP just won't be bipartisan, again.

If deaths due to self-defense have indeed tripled in Florida, then they're saving millions of taxpayer dollars in trials and the cost of incarceration.
.45 round .... .43 (as a 'for instance', YMMV)
2 .45 rounds ... .86
3 .45 rounds ... $1.29
(Just to be sure) 4 .45 rounds ... $1.72
Pine box and plot in pauper's field ... $200.00
Empty prison cells .... PRICELESS

It doesn't take into account how many innocent lives have been saved in self defense. The only lives that would be saved would be those of criminals who injure, maim, or kill their victims. If the perpetrators are caught the taxpayer is saddled with trial costs to convict them. Then they are either acquitted and set free to reoffend or imprisoned at further taxpayer expense, to be returned to society after sentence completion to reoffend.

That bill is not going anywhere, but remember that the Democratic Party (including Barack Obama) will support this one, no matter what they say in the campaign. Any gun owner, even if he or she never carries a gun or wants to, needs to understand that the Democratic Party believes defending yourself, even protecting your family in your own home, is wrong and anyone who harms an attacker or home invader is guilty of assault or murder and should be imprisoned while the attackers go free.

True.
Also, deduct the $200.00 burial fee.
Substitute $3 for used Habitat for Humanity shovel, and $2.94 for 96 oz. of Clorox Ultra Bleach.

They can enact it but who will follow it. Trial by 12 much better than carried by 6

Juker,
You put a smile on this old fart's face and I thank you for that. I do like the "wood" chipper idea though. You'd need the big one from ax men to do the job well. :D

...therefore, the innocent should become victims.
There is absolutely no reasoning with this kind of person; they are either insane, stupid, or evil.

The man speaks the truth! I feel the exact same way.
This action is just beyond proof they're insane! We need to have them put in a 'jacket' and sent to a padded room.

Get ready for an onslaught of bills introduced, scandals , diversions of all kinds , stuff they know they can't win with, but it plays to their base and foments class warfare. Keep everyone's attention away from Obama's record. The lousy economy, no jobs, trillions in debt. The Dems can't run on his record because it sucks so they will use every diversionary tactic available to stir things up and misdirect our attention before the election. A TV special about him evolving to accept gay marriage? Come-on!

Glad I could brighten your day. And I'm more than a little serious. If a BG is stupid enough to enter my home, he ain't leaving in the vertical, no questions asked. And I might just walk out on the front porch, look up and down the street with the rest of the neighbors, and ask, "What WAS that? Did you hear it? Earthquake? Thunder? Everybody OK?"

I don't know who is pulling the strings for the Democratic Party. But, as the leftist ideas come out. I think I am going to vote straight Republican. These Dems are a quart low.

Just remember if you ever really have to shoot some one and they did die, you did not shoot to kill but you shot to stop them because you feared for your life. It could of been one shot are six but your answer would still be the same.

Amen to that. And should they fall, and not appear to be dead, and you kneel down to render aid, pulling them to a sitting position by their hair, they will invariably go for your weapon, at which point you will have no choice but to shoot them some more.

Coastie I agree except that if it ever becomes law then WE are on the defensive. Trial by 12 etc sounds good but if we in defending ourselves are breaking the law we are doomed. Better to be sure it never passes in the first place and these do-gooders are run out of office.

Look, these lunatic liberals are so crazy they would rather pass a law that gives the criminal a million dollars if they get injured during a robbery that they are committing. They are nutjobs and they are just flat out dangerous.

I just returned from DC and aftr meeting with two senators and five congressmen all republicans. I am still of the opinion they will be plesant, smile and tell you what they think you want to hear. I was happy to see one of the congressmen is a member of SCI and had all kinds on animal mounts on his walls. I at lease know he is a second amendment fan. I did point out to one of the congressmen that all gun laws ever passed were unconstitutional and he did not disagree.

Ahhhh...If that happens, it's open season on the likes of Michael Moore and other rich liberals. Break in, get hurt, sue their pants off. Dose them with their own medicine.
While at it, they should target the lawmakers that passed those laws. ;)

The original author of the bill has withdrawn it. I guess even he realized it was stupid.
