Winchester Rifle
Model: Ranger
Cal: 30-06
Looks like a Model 70----how can I be sure of when it was made--- From what I've found, I'm thinking poss 1985? Can anyone help me?
The serial # begins with a G, does the serial number mean anything?
Thanks in advance

The Blue book shows that Winchester used the G Prefix from 1969 until 1981, I can not confirm it's accuracy. Winchester did furnished Sears with a Model 70 for sale under the Sears brand. To meet the price constraints demanded by Sears less time was spent on the finish, the wood was Birch instead of Walnut and the checking was impressed instead of cut.Because it is considered a cheapened version of the Model 70 the value would be 15 to 20 percent less that the Winchester marked Model 70. None of this lowers the usefulness of the firearm. It is still a accurate hunting rifle.
