Anyone had experience with the PT series for reliability? I like the fact that they are DAO autoloaders that also have an independent external safety. However, I'm interested if this platform has a history of malfunction, or, is it reliable as CCW?

The lifetime warranty is a great benefit, unless you need it all the time! Thanks for your input.

Gearjammer,
I have a Taurus copy of the Sig P226. It is called a PT908. Is was discontinued (I don't know when, does anyone know?)...It is not a Millenium, but I think it was the generation before it.

It has the same functions as the Sig, dbl action first pull, single action thereafter.

It has been completely reliable and I have not had a problem with it in 8 months. I put a box of ammo thru it every week (I also deep clean it every 250 rounds, range clean and light oil weekly) I have no reservations about CCW carry with it (8+1 capacity), as it can be concealed well enough inside waist band.. The Taurus warranty is excellent and I have heard that they stand behind what they make 100%.

I have, or did have, a Tarus .45 Milenium. It's at the factory being repaired at the moment. They have had it for about a month now. It would misfire about 5 rounds out of 50.

I wish I had done my homework prior to selecting the Tarus. They do not have that good a rating with the Better Business Bureau in Florida...

My wife has 2 Millennium PT111s, identical, and they both work excellent. She has put 500 rounds through each without a hitch. Her girlfriend also has the same gun (had it before my wife did) and she loves hers. I made the mistake of letting my wife shoot my Glock. Yup, now the wife has 2 Glock Model 19s.

She thinks they (the Glocks) are the best thing since sliced bread! I paid less for the TWO PT111s than I did for ONE Glock Model 19, but all four of them are very reliable, the PT111 is smaller/lighter, but the PT111 trigger pull is WAY TOO LONG. Glock trigger is much better.

All four are equally accurate. She hits whatever she aims at, and she carries the Glock 19 for CCW or her Taurus T85 Titanium .38 Special, depending on her dress ocassion.

Hope that helped.

Good advice.... For many, it comes down to money. If you can wait until your kitty has more $$$, then Glock is the way to go. If you're in the $300 range, the Taurus 111 is a great little gun for the money. A little lower and you best choice might be a Kel-Tec. Don't overlook a good used Glock option.

Hi guys.
I have the TAURUS pt140. 40 cal. I reload my own. It has never malfunctioned. However, I want to sell it simply because i don't like the trigger pull on it. Way too hard for target, plinking. etc.

It was designed for concealed carry. for that, it is superb.
I believe the trigger pull is about 12 lbs.

The extra plus for it, law suits, is it comes with a locking key that completely disables it until your ready to carry it.

every compact I've fired is junk in my opinion.the full sized pt92,pt100,and pt945 are excellent firearms.accurate, reliable, the 45 is easiest to cc because of the shorter barrel.

JUNK!!!!!

I had a PT-145. The frame cracked after only 650 rounds of standard pressure 230gr hardball!! I sent it back to Taurus and when it returned, I sold it, bought night sights for my Glock 36, and never looked back!!! It was to bad though. That pistol would print 2" groups at 25 yards!!
Glocks may come and Glocks may go, but Walther endures forever!!

I got rid of my Taurus Millennium before I even shot it. It had without a doubt, the WORST trigger I have ever found on any semi-automatic pistol.

Have to agree with SIG230 on the Taurus trigger pull. It is a bona fide Commiefornia certified "Attorney Special"
that has a 14 pound pull requiring a 3/4 inch travel to fire a round. Not just the first shot, but every shot!!
AND it has an external thumb actuated safety. WHO needs an external thumb safety on a DAO pistol? That's what I call an "Attorney Special" because there is no way they could ever acusse you of "accidentally" shooting someone.

This in no way invalidates my earlier post. The PT111 is VERY reliable, dependable, and easy to use. It is the PERFECT Commiefornia CCW gun for ladies, because it is small, light weight, compact, minimal recoil, easy to field strip and clean, easy to load and shoot, carries 11 shots, and is relatively accurate at close range. It is not a target pistol, but will get the job done at 3-7 yards (or closer).

have seen no reports on the taurus pt 145 millennium pro, I have one and though not thousands of rounds through it, the several i've ran all went boom! the cracked frames are a thing of the past with the millennium pro and a very easy to control 45, like the man said, not a target pistol to cough out rounds at 50 yards but for its intended purpose of a sd for home or personal perotection i'd not be afraid to count on it!! Another great point for it is IF u ever had to drop a bg, when the pd came out and u turned it over to them, really, what have u maybe lost, a 275.00 gun? Sure beats maybe never seeing ur les brown again OR the 1600.00 or so u invested in it!!!!

I have the Pro PT111, Taurus makes one of the best products in their price range. It was my primary carry. I generally carry IWB and its a bit chunky for comfort. Now that I have the Kahr PM9 it is a mattress gun. IMO the trigger pull was quite pleasant, compared to the P3AT or the NAA 380. I would trust my life to any of my Taurus, like my PT908. Now if I could conceal that M607 (Taurus 357 compensated 6 1/2" 7 shot). Yea Baby :D

I had PT-111 like size !Hated trigger!Word of warning field stripping this baby is a bitch as putting it back together you need extra fingers to get it done.
I sold it for glock 17 and never locked back.I think you get what you pay for
no matter what product it is.

I have the third generation PT-145, the one with the little accessory rail in front of the trigger guard.

It is one of the best guns I have ever owned. Mine has gone "bang" every time I have pulled, the now silky smooth trigger, over 2000 times and counting. It is really nice to buy a sub $300.00 gun, that shoots to point of aim, right out of the box, first round. I love the second strike capability, if ever needed. It is super fun to shoot and is my constant companion either as a BUG or a primary office carry. I have sold 5 friends on this little hand cannon by simply giving it to them for a weekend, along with a bunch of targets and 50 rounds of Winchester White Box 230gr. FMJ from Wally World. They all have the stainess slide versions but mine just has the black slide. Double taps are effortless and easy to control. Take down and cleaning is a snap and it has great big white dot sights. When at home mine takes on the role of nightstand gun with a little light on the rail. ;)

I am planning to buy one for each of my two sons when they go for their Texas CHL's as a gift of completion. :D

I have a Taurus Millennium Pro PT-745, which is very similar to the -145 but a bit smaller. So far it has been a most excellent weapon with not a single misfire or failure to feed. I use it often as a carry weapon because I like the .45 caliber punch it provides in a small, light package.

Taurus should be ashamed of itself for boasting about the PT1911 and then putting them out at a rediculous rate of somewhere between zero and slightly better. I expected the PT1911 for Christmas 2005, then Christmas 2006. My dealer says he has never actually talked with a dealer that has had one come in. He has had mine of order for over a year and a half. If this is how Taurus treats potential buyers, they scare me as to what type of weapon they put out. I see multiple threads about how happy people are after getting it back from the factory for repairs of their new weapon. Repairing a new weapon merely means they are putting out a product and hoping it works. I agree that when it works, it really works. Waiting for something this long means they have probably lost me to another brand. I have the Millenium in .45 and enjoy it. It appears that will be my last Taurus. Quality is one thing, not having it available is another. I am guessing that Springfield will soon have another customer. Me. Taurus needs to get a fair system for distribution instead of shipping everything they have to a small number of suppliers.

Help!!! I went to a farm on Saturday and noticed that I got a slight bite to the webbing of my right hand, every time I fire my PT111 Millenium. Then I noticed a very small crack in the frame, running horisontally from the retaining pin towards the middle of the frame. This crack opens up with every shot fired and it actually pinched my hand every time. Is this dangerous and can I keep on firing the gun??

It is almost impossible to get a license for a handgun here in SA, so I hope Taurus will replace the frame!??!?

I have fired around 800 rounds through this gun and most were Sellier and Bellot factory ammo.

You need to stop firing that gun IMMEDIATELY. It is no longer safe.

You got a bad deal, Altrisk. The Millenium series had some problems with the frames cracking like that; the newer Millenium Pro series is, I've read and heard, much better, but that doesn't change the fact that yours is broken.

Taurus has a lifetime warranty on everything, so theoretically they will fix it for you. I can't say how long that will take, as I've never used their repair service (I don't own any Taurus guns).

I hope it all works out for you, man.

I bought a new PT 111 and wish I hadn't. Out of the first 10 attempts to fire: 6 were misfires, 2 fired but jambed on ejection and I had one double fire. I sent it in for repairs eight weeks ago. I called them today and they couldn't tell me when it would ship, but "it should be soon" They said that they had some shipping problems.

I bought it because I wanted a "real" safety. This gun doesn't need it because it don't work. If you still want one, let me know and I'll make you a good deal as soon as I get it back from the repair shop.

My PT-145 Mill Pro is a great weapon, 3rd generation, and I switch off it and my 24/7 Pro C .40 s&w, also a great weapon, as my cold weather EDC. For summer I carry a Kahr CW9 everyday whether in pocket or IWB holster.

Just bought a Millennium Pro 9mm for my wife in late December. It seems like a great gun, after 400 or 500 rounds it shoots reliably with only one jam. The slide doesn't come off for cleaning as easily as my Steyr M40A1 but that's fine :)

One problem though. At 5yards it seems to be sighted in about 12 in high. I'm relatively new to handguns, but I've had four other people shoot it, all with the same result. It has adjustable sights, but near as I can tell they're only adjustable side to side. I'd like to get it sighted in right for her, but I'm not sure what needs to be done. Any thoughts/advice?

I don't have experience with Taurus semiautos myself, but a friend owns a full size 9mm Taurus that looks like an exact copy of the US Army Beretta except in stainless steel, and he loves it. In my experience with the 3 Taurus revolvers I have owned I have found that if you get a good example it will be a very good revolver and a bargain to boot. But if you get a lemon you're screwed because Taurus so-called warranty "service" sucks big time.

Of the 3 Taurus revolvers I have owned only one had no mechanical problems, and that one was excellent and equal to my S&Ws and Colts in every respect. Actually it was better in some respects such as it's extremely smooth and light DA trigger and "glass rod" SA trigger. However, even though that one revolver was excellent I don't own a Taurus now and don't expect to ever buy another one. 2 lemons out of 3 guns is not good enough odds for me. And did I mention that Taurus warranty service really sucks?

I just purchased a Taurus Millennium PT111. I like everying about it so far. EXCEPT, I put 200rounds of 115grn Win FMJ yesterday and it consistently hit low. WAY LOW! About a foot. This is my first 9mm, I'm pretty accurate with my 44's and 38's. Could it be the ammo? Any suggestions?

It's likely the ammo. If that's the ammo you want you use, you can change the sights.

You said that it is consistently hitting low. Consistency is the only measure of accuracy. As long as it is consistent, then the sights can be changed to your liking.

We have a PT 111 Millenium Pro 9mm and a 24/7 PT45 Pro C and we love both guns. So far they have eaten all ammo and go bang. I just scored a 100% on my CCW shooting test with my 45. As to the availability, my dealer has had everything that I have looked for so far. Maybe I have lucked out, but he gets reasonably regular shipments of Taurus guns, both semi-auto and revolvers. I would not hesitate to purchase more.

I am so glad to hear so many who hated the trigger on the Millenium. I had a PT-140. Size, shape, ergonomics were perfect and it never failed to go bang but it was by far the worst trigger I ever felt. Not just heavy but totally inconsistant and unpredictable. There were times I felt I had pulled it as far as I possibly could and nothing would happen then surprise, Bang! I sold it to a fully warned friend about 7 years ago who still carries it but won't waste time trying to punch paper with it. IMHO it's a great gun to carry as long as you never have to shoot it. The Kimber Ultra Carry II I replaced it with for 3 times the cost is still my primary carry gun and well worth the difference. I won't bore you with my other Taurus horror stories.

Is it a Mill. or a Mill. Pro?
The reason I'm asking is the heinie sights on the Pro are designed to acquire sight picture "dead on" instead of the "six o'clock" position, which is usually the problem.
That little fact helped me raise my shots up about 6". Unfortunately, seeing it started out hitting about 12" low, I'm still not quite there. I called Taurus, and they informed me that there are no other sights available for the PT111 Pro, so I can send it in for an accuracy test, and if it's off by their standards, they'll do what it takes to correct it. If not, I'll just have to get the front sight smithed to get it where I want it. From everyone I've spoken to, including customer service at Taurus, I'm expecting the turn around on their testing to be at least 2 months, so if it's not just a heinie sight "misunderstanding" and you don't want to be without your pistol that long, it may be worth your while to just go get the sights chopped. Personally, I just got a new Sig to carry, so I'm gonna go ahead and send the Taurus in and see what they say. I'll be sure to update this as soon as I hear back from them and let everyone know the verdict.

I have the same problem with my sites. I like the gun. trigger pull does not bother me. But the site compensation for a bullseye is annoying. You have to line the bottom of the front sight dot up with the top of the back groove. Once you do that its a perfect shot. Shot 3/4 inch of center at 12 yards today. None of this figure eight mess its two dots and a gap.

I have a PT 145 MIllenium purchased brand new in June 09 with 3 dot sights. Nowhere on the gun does the word Pro appear. Now I'm hearing about cracked frames and long waits for Taurus to replace the gun. I've only fired a few magazines through the gun but is very accurate. I'm wondering what I have here and should I sell it & buy something else or keep it and run the risk of a possible cracked frame & possible injury or death at some point in the future.

I recently bought a Taurus PT111 with some issues. The trigger is broken, the take down pin spring is missing, and I think the firing pin safety spring is missing. I have taken a picture of my firing pin safety. As you can see it is not engaged. The problem is that I can not find an exploded drawing that exactly matches my gun. There is a small spring loaded part that fits into a machined slot behind the firing pin safety, that looks like it should cam the safety back and forth or something, but all I can figure out is that it may move under recoil. Anyway, I really could benefit from someone posting a picture of their firing pin safety for comparason. I will be calling Taurus for parts, and it would help if I knew for sure what might be missing. I hope to avoid shipping the gun to them to save $. If you have a NON PRO Taurus Millenium PT series and would be willing to help me out, I would appreciate it. You would have to remove your slide, turn it upside down, remove the screw holding the firing pin safety cover in place. Carefully pop the cover off, take a pic, replace cover. Be careful not to lose any small parts. I know I am asking a lot. I am an 01 FFL located in Oklahoma, if there is anything I can do in return, just let me know.

I have a PT145Pro. It is without a doubt the sorriest peice of junk I ever attempted to shoot. I say attempted because it jams about every 3rd round. Trigger pull is awful! Guess I'll take a beating on it but I cannot wait to get rid of this, maybe trade for a sling shot!

I have not had any serious issues with my Millennium Pro P-140. The trigger isn't the best, but I am used to the length of pull and it goes bang when I pull the trigger. Mine shoots a little low and to the left, which means with a double tap, the first round will puncture the left lung or liver and the second will hit the X ring. Can't complain about that. :D

Just got off the phone with Taurus customer service. Sorry I was a burden to them. But I did wish them well. Under no circumstances will I ever purchase another Taurus product.

I have (2) 3rd gen Millennium Pro 145's. They have been sent back to the factory for cracked frames and now the slide goes under the mag release when released when using a particular magazine. I have had numerous missfires (could be wolf primers).I must say the pistol is very accurate 2" w/ 5 shots at 25yds (reloads).I think the gun looks and feels great in the hand, but will not now use it as a CCW due to potential misfires. The Glock G30 or the G27 are the CCW's.

I purchased a PT 111 Millennium a month ago used. I put 50 rounds down the barrel since and I think it is a great close quarters firearm. What I mean by that is I thought it performed very well 15 yards and closer but was lacking at the 25 yard line. I am going to switch out sites because I don't like the stock sites. This is the first firearm by 18 year old daughter has shot and she loved it. She also shot my S&W 9mm and prefers the Taurus. Needles to say her very first shot was center of mast! So overall, the gun is well worth the money. What is really cool about this gun is the lifetime warranty is transferable!

Third generation PT145. Daily carry. Great gun. Now 600 rounds plus. Most problems have to do with the magazines. I had one bad magazine, and replaced it. No further problems.

Regarding your question:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurus_Millennium_series
The 3rd series added single/double action triggers on several models in lieu of the double action only of the first two series.

So, if you are DA Only, you do not have a 3rd generation.

I happen to have acquired a 3rd (lightly used) for a Christmas present from me to myself. Took it out to the range a week later for a test drive. Fifty rounds, all reloads, Roundnose, HP and 147 grain cast. At 10 yards they all grouped about the size of a large apple.

No failures. Acceptable accuracy for such a short barrel? I think so.

I have a PT 111. It is a good gun for close-up (15 yrd line or closer) but it isn't go at the 25 yard line. My biggest complaint with this weapon is field stripping it!! I have field stripped hundreds of guns in my lifetime, Taurus screwed the pooch with the PT 111! I hate disassembling the gun. Also, I found it a little bulky for CCW. The best CCW weapon I've seen so for is a 380.

Also shopping for and was turned on to the Millenium model(s) in the 9mm or 45 cal. When talking with an employee at the gun shop in Texas he STRONGLY recommended avoiding that model primarily for the trigger action/pul weight etc,... but didn't throw out other continued issues they seem to be plagued with. I was turned on to a FM manufactured 9mm, poly frame, 14+1, ambidextrious safety, 3lb trigger(I believe). Extremely happy with this guns action, reliability, accuracy.

My PT-111 is a great pistol, reliable, never jams, and does what it
was designed to do.It however, like my Bersa Thunder .380 is out of date.
I bought both for concealed carry.Great for the times. Now?
Manufacturers are making pistols for the CCW boom that has
taken off in the last year or so.The new pistols are lighter, smaller,
thinner and just a more comfortable gun to carry.I still carry the
PT-111 on occasion, but mostly carry the Ruger LCP.I've sold my
Bersa and am thinking of selling the PT-111.My next buy?Looking
at the Ruger LC9.A CCW made for carrying.Hearing good things on it.

I have a PT 111 and I love it. I didn't enjoy it at first but I figured out how to properly field strip the gun. I have never had a jam with it. It is designed to be a CCW weapons. It performs well up close. Don't try to shoot at the 50 yard line with it. I paid 200 bucks for mine used (400 rounds down the pipe) so I thought I got a great deal. I carry it everyday.

good day guys!!! I'm a filipino, anybody could help me decide with this . . .
I've been planning to purchase a pt111 next month, I'd like to buy a glock 26, but due to budget considerations, I might as well go for a cheaper one . . . the taurus pt111 Millennium Pro. I've been watching some review in the internet and there's some comment with regard to its accuracy due to its barrel length (3.25") some say it should be at least 3.5" for the bullet to spin good. How about the gun materials was it reliable? If I proceed with my purchase, that will be my first firearm. I would highly appreciate any advice . . . thank you :)

We have a PT111 in 9 mm that my wife loves. It is a good gun for what it was designed for, self defense. It has been plenty accurate and is a great size for her. Taurus also makes the newer 24/7 series in a Pro C model that has some nice updates as well. I have a 24/7 OSS DSS in 40 cal that I had to send back because the mag release was too stiff. Taurus turned the gun around in 4 weeks and it works like a charm. There are plenty of Taurus haters out here but I have not had any issues myself. That is not to say that there have not been issues, but I have found that the attitude that you approach the issue with has a great deal to do with the response. We have to remember that on the other end of the phone is a person too. My biggest complaint with CS is the long wait times to talk to a person. Good luck.

Old Guy & TnRebel

Thank you so much sir. Your response did a lot of help. And I think, I got
to go with pt111. But still I have two choices, the the pt111 bp (blue steel slide) or that pt111 ssp (matte stainless steel slide). I want that "blue steel" version, because I want my weapon dark. Does it has any difference (except for the color) with regards to the durability of the steel that its using?
Once again sir, thank you so much.

Old Guy

The only difference that you will notice over time is the black/blue on the slide high spots will visibly show more wear. Other than that, you should not see any difference at all. Keeping a gun cleaned and properly lubricated will do a great deal for the longevity of the piece. There are many good and well proven products to accomplish this but I recently found a product named Gunzilla that is non toxic and seems to do a good job of cleaning and protecting. Good luck on your choice.

I have the Millennium PT 111 in 9mm. After a couple thousand rounds now, I've got nothing really bad to say about it. 2 small things....1 - I wish the sights where a little better. It doesn't adjust for yardage, only windage. 2 - I've never liked the trigger and this seems to be the biggest complaint among people I've spoken to. Otherwise, its a great little gun for the money. My wife likes it because, like someone said, it has a smaller handle. That doesn't bother me 'cause I'm used to shooting smaller semi-autos. I would defiantly recommend the Taurus Millennium PT 111.

Nutnplastic:

Guns are sort of like people, they have personalities. You can buy two of the same model and they will be somewhat different. The Taurus trigger has a lot of travel before it engages. Once it engages it tightens up until you put enough pressure on it to break the sear free from the striker mechanism. But, that is only on the first round in a previously empty chamber. Once you fire the first shot, the semi auto has a trigger reset. This means that you only let the trigger out until you hear the reset click. At that point you are ready to fire again alleviating all of the trigger travel. My two Taurus pistols have shorter reset than any other gun that I have except for my 1911. So despite the long initial pull, the Taurus trigger is pretty sweet for follow up shots. If you were already aware of the reset, I apologize for the redundant information. However, someone who does not know that may read this post and gain some knowledge. Good luck.

Old Guy,

Yes sir, I've already got an idea about that trigger reset but I have to admit
that I'm really not that sure about it, until I've read it from your reply that gives me a confirmation for my ideas.

Thank you and more power. :)

OK, I just joined this forum and have to ask...This thread is 8 years old (was started in 2003). Doesn't that bother anybody? I mean really, I think the OP grew up, got married and has 3 kids now. Anyway...

I've owned a pt111 mil pro for 3 years now & really like this gun. I carry a Glock 27 as my CC gun & use a Glock21sf at home for HD, but when I travel I carry the Taurus Mil Pro since it's cheaper & seems to be just as reliable. When I visit SC they disarm me since they don't acknowledge my Ga. permit, so I take my pt111 because it stays in my Jeep all day. I wish they would change their laws over there. Taurus PT111 Millenium Pro has been very, very good to me.

I have a millennia pt111pro 9mm and a 24/7 pro .45. I love them bothA
and try to get to the range as much as possible. I had a S&W sigma 9 mm but the pin holding trigger assembly started to back out after less than 1000 rds. I sold it and got the pt 111 and have only two ftf and 1 fte changed ammo and have had no problems. Love the way both feel in my hand. I am a mechanic by trade and all tools have to fit good or I won't use it. Taurus is a good company as far as I am concerned and will buy more whe the budget allows.

No way! There is a library of information on here covering nearly every mass-produced firearm (and a good number of specialty arms) made in the last 140 years or so. Why should we stop the discussion?

Dang. The gun dealers in my hood (FFL's in my city) all said the same thing. "I have shipped more of those back than any other gun." I really don't know what this means. Who did they ship it back to and why? Cant the owner just ship it to taurus and get it fixed? Wow. I read some other forums and my very first handgun purchase is a pt140 pro. I bought it used. When I got it I fired about 70 rounds of winchester 165gr fmj's out of it. FLAWLESS. The second time I shot it, I finished off that 100 round box and put another 150 rounds of aguilla 180gr fmjs out of it. I had 2 misfires. I blame the ammo but I am a newbie. Dang good lookin gun, takes down easy, looks purdy. Got the stainless slide with it. It performs as well as my buddies m&p. No it does better. The girl at the range said I got a good one. She should read this forum. Pfaw. I love it and will carry it wherever I can except CA. Don't want it to go to impound. btw TNRebel where did you get that nice lookin grip?

Well I bought a taurus 145 3/rd generation with the two dot aiming so far I have had no prob. with it at all I have fired over 2000 rounds through it so far no jamming or miss fires
I carry it every where I go fits comfortably in my belt .( the only thing I don't like about it is the safety , I see no reason for it at all,) thanking off the safety in a life and death situation could get you killed .. BUT THAT IS JUST ME

I had the pt140 and had major problems with the mag dropping out roughly every third shot. I just assumed my thumb was grazing the mag release which is very possible considering my grip style and the location of the release button but I've read several other threads with people having the same problem. So I'm not really sure what caused it. I can say my two buddies that were shooting with me when I first got it had no problems with the mag dropping out so I figured it must have been my thumb hitting it. BTW I realize the OP asked this question roughly 8 years ago but if someone else in the market for a pt100 series reads this then maybe it'll help out.

I have the PT111. I agree the trigger pull is terrible but for a defence gun I'm ok with that. One thing for sure is you won't have any accidental shots with a trigger pull like that. If I had to do it all over I would have bought the new compact Ruger although I have never shot one. Gallery of Guns gave it high marks but then again Ruger sponsers some of their show.
