Hi all,

I am a design engineer who works for a company who are currently designing and building a bullet comparison system for forensic applications. Can anyone tell me if there is a list anywhere on the web or anywhere else of the most common bullet sizes, shapes and dimensions. Ideally the system that we are building needs to be engineered to hold as many different sizes and shapes of bullets as possible. However I personally don't have any experience of firearms or ammunition so need to look this information up. As well as the bullet sizes I could also do with information on the size of the cartridge shells as the system will be used to analyse these as well.

Any help you guys can offer will be gratefully received.

Many thanks for your attention.

Rob

Well, your question will probably encompass several thousands of bullets, types and composition as well as shapes. Start with the link below and copy down the manufacturers names and go to their web site. Then there are the lead bullet moulds that we use to cast our own bullets which come in assorted sizes and shapes. Good luck on your quest.

Welcome to TFF.

Hi rockinrob......welcome to TFF! :)

You'll probably also want to buy a copy of "Cartridges Of The World"......which is sort of the Bible of cartridges. It list the dimensions of almost all of the cartridges and cartridge cases made.

Welcome to our nightmare rochinrob!

If you are looking for the specific dimensions of bullets - as in the projectiles only, not complete cartridges - you'll probably have to go straight to the source and contact the ammunition companies.
