New Job

Well I got a new job. Going back to the same grocery store where I was once a part-time stock clerk, now I'm going to be full time produce clerk.

Went down to talk to the managers today and had them argue over what department would get me. It's nice to feel wanted and have your previous hard work recognized.

This will hold me over nicely until I go back to school in the fall to work my way towards a marine engineering diploma.

Just too bad the gun shop wasn't hiring.

And Al, I have heard tell that Canada is weighing options where establishing our own Marine force is concerned. From what I hear they'll be modeled more on the Royal Marines than the United States Marine Corps. though I think our crest will be a globe, killick (look it up) and sea-gull. :p

Update.

The job is going great! Like I said, I worked at this place before as a stock clerk but quit to go to University. Now after nine months of being away it's like coming back from a long weekend.

I took a minute to see what was on sale this week, what the price of milk is and see what we have in stock and what we need to order and then got right back in the grind. Was cracking jokes and generally playing grab-a$$ all day just like I never left, everyone seems glad to have me back and that means SO MUCH.

"Training" for the produce department is going well, as the manager and the senior produce clerk are around my age, just a little older and I've worked and partied with them before. It's basically three friends who happen to hang out in a grocery store and play who can put more stuff on the shelves in an hour.

Going to the staff BBQ tonight for a few drinks and a bit of catching up with some of the cashiers. :cool:

Glad to hear that the new/old job is coming along well. I guess you're pretty skilled at judging really nice melons from bad ones, huh? ;)

I'm interested in knowing what a supermarket in Newfoundland is like compared to what I'm used to (Publix, Albertsons, Safeway, Frye's, et al). How about posting some pictures of the interior of this fine establishment, and maybe a few of you grabbing ass.

I won a new sleeping bag at the barbecue. What a time we had! The party happened to coincide with the beginning of Canada Day celebrations in town, so a small area of downtown, namely George Street was fenced off and there was a huge party in the street.

Pat, from what I've seen in driving a couple of times down the east coast of the U.S. to Florida, then west along the Gulf coast as far as Texas Supermarkets here are pretty well the same as everywhere else. The only store you mention that I clearly remember is Safeway and it campares with the Major chains around here like Sobey's or Dominion (Loblaw's on the mainland).

I remember spending a lot of time in Winn-Dixies in Florida trying to cool down in front of the freezer cases. My body is well acclimated to the northern climes, but heat makes me VERY uncomfortable. I can't see how you Southerners get any work done in all that heat. Newfies are hard working people and we'll work on through rain and dark of night, but heat slows us down something terrible. My father has always been a man who expected his sons to pull their weight when there was landscaping or wood cutting to be done, each according to his ability, but when it's just too hot out, it's time to go dangle your feet in the pond and do some fishing.
