A 52-year old Scottsdale man was hospitalized after he accidentally shot himself in the foot with a shotgun early Friday morning, police said.

Michael Gordon carried a loaded shotgun as he searched behind his house on the 11000 block of N. 138th Way around 3 a.m. for people he thought he had seen for the past couple nights, police said.

After his search failed to turn up anyone, he returned to his house and tripped on the steps leading up to his house, police said. He attempted to catch his balance and the shotgun discharged into his left foot.

The blast awakened his wife, father, and daughter who were sleeping in the house at the time, police said.

Gordon was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Shea for treatment.

I am sure glad he wasn't from the south,
North 138th Way :D;)

Wouldn't count for a Darwin Award... he's still alive, and he's not sterile (at least not from this). Maybe next time, though...

Well, one of the two mottos for Scottsdale is "The Beverly Hills of The Desert," so what else can one expect of a resident but utter stupidity? :D

Naw, that's too tame for a Darwin, I think with guns to qualify for a Darwin you have to look down the barrel to see if it's loaded and THEN trip and set it off...something a littel more uncommon...

Although I once knew a guy back home near Buffalo that was the father of a girl I went to school with, that, prior to checking the level of gasoline in his Massey Ferguson inside his garage before plowing snow one morning with a MATCH because his garage light had burned out, wasn't EVER suspected of being a moron...

The classic Darwin Award candidate, however, is that crazy Polish guy who always argues the M4 tank was not a POS, and that Mosin Nagant rifles are better than Mausers. I think he'll definitely win top prize this year. :D;):p

No Darwin award, he only broke 2 laws of gun safety. :(

..AND lived and/or didn't hurt anyone else...

Kinda like the golf tee game at Cracker Barrel - Not quite an "Ignoramus." but "Just Plain Dumb...."

And PS?

What does it say about the guy who trashes virtually all the weapons that actually WON wars....while extolling the virtues of stuff that LOST wars....HHHmmmm....

Darwinity isn't necessarily the description of that infermity, INSANITY is more like it....;)

"Darwinity?" "Infermity?" Thirty lashes with a cat-o'-nine-tails for butchery of the King's English, Polish! Your college English profs are doubtless shaking their heads in utter dismay! :D

It's not insane, Polish, to admire quality engineering and to disdain faulty engineering that only worked due to mass quantity. After all, an enemy can be killed with marshmallows if you have enough of them. Come to think of it, marshmallow thrower is a pretty good description of the main gun on an M4. :D;):p
