I may have done something really bone-headed, but that's my usual M.O. I had my riflesmith build me a 6.5 x 300 WSM. I like the ballistics of the 6.5 bullet and thought I'd see what it would do when pushed by the WSM case.
Here's my question: Are there any other folks out there with one of these oddballs, and if so, what are some loads I can try with it? I've been in contact with Redding and can get some dies from them for this wildcat (for a minor fortune, but what the hey). What I need now are some reloading recipes.
Another others out there willing to admit they built one of these?
Thanks for your help.

Try calling Sierra Bullets tech support at: 800-233-8799
If not them, call the company whos bullet you plan to use.
The reason I say Sierra is that they do a LOT of R and D work.
I've gotten load data from them several times with great results, and I shoot some off the wall stuff, ie: .30 IHMSA.
They are some good shooters who will be more than happy to help you out.
I'd take Internet loads with a BIG grain of salt.

Thanks, Art, I'll give Sierra a try. I like Sierras and Hornadys, so I'll try Hornady also. Since the bullet folks do this, maybe the powder folks do as well. It might be worth a shot.
Thanks for the info.

WSM, let us know what you find out. This sounds like a good bullet & case combo.
I like the 6.5 x .284 and wish I had one.

6.5 on the .300WSM case sounds like it'd be a great little cartridge, similar to if not a little hotter than the 6.5x.284 or the mostly forgotten 6.5 Remington Mag. I'm curious how it turns out too.
I'm a big .264 fan too and have owned or still own several swedes plus a CZ550 in 6.5x55. Always meant to build up a 6.5-06, but have been eyeballing the 6.5RemMag lately since a local shop has one of the discontinued 673 Guide rifles in that cartridge sitting on the shelf.
