Lee Marvin starred in the first movie of this title with co-star, Jack Palance (hint #2). It was later re-made with another star who said the quote.

Why did John Wayne take that pose in 1shot's picture he posted above?

I think the doorway and it’s framing darkness, represents Ethan’s lack of fully understanding and accepting what lies within: family and civilization. His pose ‘away’ from the doorway, indicates that he will never understand or accept the confines of family and civilization. His isolation in the frame, indicates his isolation in the wilderness in which he lives, and an acknowledgement of his decision to do so. The shadow at his feet, is a tenuous connection to his brother’s family, as close as he will ever come towards becoming 'civilized'.

You've been reading too many psych books! LMAO :D

Harry Carey stood like that when he was thinking or trying to work out a scene. Duke did it as a tribute to him. Olive Carey played Mrs. Jorgensen and Harry Carey Jr played Brad Jorgensen and he struck that pose for the final shot to honor his friend.

Not many folks know that or let alone, who Harry Carey was. I loved the crusty old Marshal (Territorial Marshal Wistful McClintock) he played with the Duke in, "Angel and the Badman."

You get to post a quote to keep this trivia contest going.

BTW, your answer was very enlightening and probably pretty close if one looked that deep into the psyche of the pioneer folk.

I gave my answer from the many documentaries I've watched on John Wayne. :D

SaddleSarge,

Thank you Sir, I am honored. Did you recognize Harry Carry Jr in Tombstone? He played Marshall Fred White.

For those that may not remember Harry Carey;

45,
You've touched on one of the most interesting aspects of movie 'watching' and movie 'thinking': Everyone has individual interpretations of both scenes and the nuances that compose them. Great directors did - and still do, compose scenes with an eye toward ‘art’. John Ford was one of the best of these. I based my comment upon a autobio and a documentary dealing with his output. (See what I mean?) :D

Oh, and I posted a quote, it’s the same that appears in my tag line, but I should have bolded it so that it would stand out. (sorry!)

Here's the quote I was thinking of from "Animal Crackers." I think Mel Brooks twisted this to Young Frankenstein to purposely have the Groucho intonation.

"You know, you two girls have everything. You’re tall and short and slim and stout and blonde and brunette. And that’s just the kind of a girl I crave."

Yes, the rum is gone.

Why is the rum gone?

One, because it is a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men into complete scoundrels. Two, that signal is over a thousand feet high. The entire royal navy is out looking for me. Do you really think that there is even the slightest chance that they won't see it?

But why is the rum gone?

Can anyone help me find a movie I dont know the name of? I only saw maybe one half hour, but can say I think it was foreign and subtitled. It was a war film I think North and South Korea, both sides were Asian for sure. I think there were two brothers on opposite sides. One died and the other found his remains years later. The battle 'action' was particularly good, and showed what most films dont, what happens when guys are really fighting for their lives. If you saw it, you will remember it.

I just want the name so I can try to buy it.
