Die's: taper vs. roll crimp Question

I'm looking at die's for the RCBS single stage press. I'll be loading 38spl & 357 mag for my Smith 686 revolver. Which is best the taper or roll crimp die.

For rimmed cases, you want a roll crimp.

The seating die that comes with your 38/357 combo die set will give you a roll crimp. I recommend carbide dies for all pistol cartridges.

I put a heavy crimp on 357 to prevent bullet shift from recoil.

So I guess what your saying is a 38spl & 357mag are rimmed cases. Right now RCBS is out to the 3set but have individual die's and that's where this question arose from. Yes they will be carbide either by the set or individual.
The RCBS # 18342 is roll and 18262 is the taper die.

The RCBS # 18342 is roll and 18262 is the taper die. I am surprised that RCBS even offers a tapper crimp die for 38 or 357 because even the S&W model 52 auto loader headspaces off the rim. I most certainly would opt for the roll crimp die for the reasons stated in the post as well as the fact that almost all .357 bullets have a cannelure to roll the crimp into.
