I have a freebie word processor program on my old computer called abiword.
My resume is in that format....
I am trying to figure out how to copy the program itself onto a zip drive so i can move it over to the new computer. So far i can only figure out how to copy a "link" to the program..... :(
Can anyone give me step by step instructions? Thanks
Its windows xp home.

ok glock go to my computer find the folder right click and send to zip
That only sends a shortcut to the zip drive.....not the actual program itself.

You first have to go to "start - programs" and then find the program's location. Then copy that folder to your zip drive.
It might still not run, as there might be drivers and such located elsewhere.
One way would be to have it save the resume in a word format and put that on the new computer.
Have you checked to see if abiword is still available on the net? If so, install it on your new computer and then just move the resume file.
ETA I just checked and abiword is still available. I'd do that,k as it gives you the newest edition.

How about this Mike, download a new program ( http://www.abiword.com ) then either use your flashcard to transfer your resume or email it to yourself.

I cannot get the "real" computers online..... No internet here in the boonies. I am only able to get on the internet with this POS lg vue phone.....
I went to start and all programs. From that location there is no copy or paste options by left clicking. Open, explore, delete, rename, sort by name, and properties.

Emailing the resume file is a good idea. I have done that, but usually don't think of that until I have frustrated myself to helplessness. :D

hmmmmmmmm
Is your new a laptop or desktop?
Go into the library with a thumbdrive and get on their internet. Download the new program to the thumb and take it back to camp. Have your old computer save the resume file onto the thumbdrive and take it over to the new computer.
If we try enough options, something will happen. We will keep an eye out and if we see flames and smoke from your direction we'll alert the fire department. :D

I missed the "left click" comment, as I run a left handed mouse. (Yeah, that's it. Sounds good enough to get away with. :p )

My Computer; Explore; Local Disc (C) most likely; Programs; now find your Abiword folder. Right click on the folder, then copy.
Now go to your thumb drive and paste. You should have the program and maybe or maybe not your documents depending on where you saved them at.
i think mike is getting to aggrevated tonight let him go to bed and start over tomorrow

You'll most likely have to install it on your new machine.
Now the question is, can you install it off your flash card? hummm? Good luck, I hope it goes without a hitch.

i finally got the program files open and copied not only the word processor but all of its sub files as well as the uninstall program too.
I just got home a bit ago and have not reassembled my newer computer yet....
So i dunno if it will work. Had to go pick up another cheapie printer from Target....

Do you have a camera you can plug into the computer or a camera card reader?
If so, you can treat the camera as a drive, and copy any file to its card or to a card in the reader. Once the file is on the card, move the camera or the card reader to the other computer and read in the file.
