View Full Version : Tim Tebow - Love Him or Hate Him

Teebow is emerging as THE story in the NFL this year... whatever he does/is it seems to polarize reactions, it's either love him or hate him... and IMO, of course, it is due to his outward devotion to his God, Jesus Christ... here is what his head coach said of Teebow, Coach John Fox of the Denver Broncos:
"He's real. He walks the walk," Fox told The Associated Press this week. "A guy like that in today's society, in my mind, ought to be celebrated, not scrutinized to the level that he is."
here are some reader comments from this article:
Just a sampling of the mad reaction:
» Everyone who hates tebow your all jealous ... he'll keep getting better and better.
» Tebow is a joke are you people serious LOL.
» Had to laugh as Tebow ran over, through and around the Jets defenders who said they were coming for him.
» Criticizing someone for praying is just stupid.
» The guy is really annoying. I hope he goes away soon.
» On his birthday, Tim Tebow randomly selects one lucky child to be thrown into the sun.
so what say you, love Tim Tebow or hate him?
personally, i think he is a beacon of virtue in a dark world... i have all the respect in the world for him and cheer every play he makes...
Broncos coach Fox believes Tebow 'ought to be celebrated' (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82444972/article/broncos-coach-fox-believes-tebow-ought-to-be-celebrated?module=HP11_headline_stack)
the dude could have a different girl under his arm every day of the year and live the high life in the world's eyes, instead Tim Teebow picks up his cross daily and follows his Beloved...

I think he's the real deal. I respect his willingness to espouse his beliefs to all regardless of what they think or say. I think with his work ethic he will keep at it until he turns himself into a top notch quarterback. I'll cheer him on ( except when he plays the Bears).

I like em, He is not a bad person per say and its rare for the NFL to have a player that dont have a ton of baggage behind him in terms of drugs, criminal, or other charges.
I just dont like his team thats all.

As a football player, I have complete disgust for him and anyone else that wears the bronco's uniform. I'm just a Denver hater, nothing personal...
As a man; I have great respect for him, it's rare nowadays to see such a public figure make a stand for what he believes in. He's an example to young folks and old alike; don't be afraid to love the Lord and proclaim it.

Tim was brought up going on mission trips every year and seeing how kids lived in third world countrys. His family has built and supports orfans and much of his money he earns goes there. His vacations are spent on mission trips. While he was at florida, he took urban meyer our head coach and his kids on mission trips with him. He has helped to get so many players saved its not funny. He is the real deal al right. He will go as far as he wants to go in life no matter what he does on or off the field. He feeds off of the doubters. No matter if denver keeps him or not, whoever gets him will get 120% from him every play, every day. Thats just Tebow.

He reminds me of when Jon Kitna played for the Bengals. He was very Christian in acts, words and deeds. When not on the field playing, but rather on the sidelines, he chose to wear a Bengal Orange ball cap with a big Cross on it as I recall.
The lord's of the NFL went battshit.

I am a non believer. I respect Tebow for his style
and the strength of his belief. I love how he has
the NFL pundits all stirred up. He is a fine player, too.

I'm sure he's a great guy. I have nothing against him as a man. On the other hand, he's a terrible NFL quarterback. At some point, you have to throw the ball to win games. Defenses will catch up to his style the same way they have the wildcat offense, which is nonexistant these days after just a couple years.

I find it hillarious that a quarterback who plays 8 games in the NFL can be completely summed up as a terrible quarterback. How many others got put on the field and judged in a couple of games. People want him to fail so bad that they wont allow him an opportunity to progress into an NFL quarter back. Its as if they expected him to already have NFL experience before ever playing. Wow.

Time will tell if Teebow's talents can redefine the QB position in the NFL... Denver has essentialy scrapped their "pro offense" and adapted it to what Teebow does best... can TT continue to grow with this over the long run? I don't know, but if there is one player who can do it TT can... I for one love to watch him play, no matter how ugly it looks it is always enjoyable to watch... my daughters now love to watch football now and don't want to miss TT when he is on the tube playing!!!

You see what I am saying? So many people have said after 3-4 games that hes not an NFL quarterback. Well, by gosh no kidding? Does anyone come into a system and learn it overnight? Because he prays and is such a nice guy he shouldnt get the chance to develop? I dont get it. Lets face it, he isnt exactly surrounded by a bunch of talent. I know of a pile of nascar drivers that have driven for 10 years and havent won much at all but are darn good drivers. Maybe he wont develop into a great QB in the NFL and maybe he will. All I know is the more he is told he cant, the more he will prove them wrong. He is a winner on and off the field and will succeed no matter what and that in itself will be enough to kill the haters.

I like and respect Tebow. Deep down, all the folks spewing hate are scared he's right.
Even though I'm not a huge Bronco's fan and I don't much like their new fugly uniforms either. :bleh: I still root for Tebow just because he causes the pundits grief.

I don't wish for the guy to fail at all. I have nothing against him, the Gators, or the Broncos so it's nothing personal towards him or the teams he plays for. As a fan of the NFL, I don't think he'll cut it. They're paying him 6.6 mil a year so they have to try him at QB. He's a hell of an athlete and DEFINATELY has NFL talent. I'd like for him to play TE for the Colts in about 2 years when his contract is up to be honest. I'd love to have the guy on my team, just not as QB.

Its still funny how you and others can sum him up in a few games. When people train to be computer programers, auto mechanics or anything, they dont become proficient in one season of work. So, to judge him and say he is not an NFL QB already is crazy. I hope the guy becomes the hottest passer in NFL history. He has the ability and its possible.

I'm not summing it up in a few games. I can see his mechanics, the guy is technically flawed as a passer. If that wasn't the case they might throw the ball past the line of scrimmage every now and again.
I hope the guy becomes the hottest passer in NFL history. He has the ability and its possible.
He has the ability to be a good player in the NFL. He's a great athlete. Hottest passer in NFL history? Lets not get rediculous!

What other QB has every sportscaster in the nation talking about him daily? How many QBs have so many people just hanging on every move they make, every throw they make, run they run, every thing they say and do, every time they pray or dont pray or if they have a girl friend or dont have one. How many have that kind of pressure on them day in and day out? I will answer that....ONE. And, despite all of that negative press and nay sayers wishing he would fail miserably, he stays grounded and faces adversity with a smile. It causes the haters to hate even worse and the fans to just know why they continue to support him. Give him time to settle in. He is a winner.

well I was wrong (happens often, according to my wife as well)... last sunday was Timmy's best statistical passing day so far this year, and his passer rating was 96 which is very good and much better than Philip Rivers 75 for that game... he is getting better passing... i was reminded today that in John Elway's first year starting his passer completion percentage was less than 50%...
apparently, the Bronco's head coach asked Teebow to address the team the night before the game as he talked about proverbs 27:17 "as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" and it was apparently very inspiring to all members of the team, veterans included...

Hate is such an ugly word.
Being a tried and true, I bleed ORANGE guy. I had no like for him. In my mind he's over-rated.
My respect for him falls on a different playing field (pun intended). The man is not ashamed of his faith or his faith in God and for that alone, I respect him. I hope he does well.

Even though I am a lifelong Cowboys fan I love this guy. He is on fire for Christ and no one is going to shut him up. Maybe some of the other Christians in the NFL should follow his example. Maybe all of us Christians should follow his example.
This one I give credit to my pastor for:
If your pastor showed up at your job and you introduced him as you pastor, would your boss and co-workers be shocked?

^^^ i am not sure we are all supposed to be vocal like TT is, he has a gift to do what he does... i think the example that we should follow is his love for, and obedience to, Jesus first no matter what the world thinks about it...
we are all supposed to 'witness' for Jesus Christ, but most of us do not have vocal gifts of evangelism... for others you may be witnessing by using your gift to help people, or your gift to show compassion on those needing it, or your gift of finance to help someone with their financial troubles... find out the natural gifts God gave you and use them for His glory to please Him (not to gain His favor, but out of love for Him), and I think TT is an example for us to follow in this regard...

I just laugh inside every time I read an article where some player says tebow should tone it down or stop being so vocal about his faith. He is not vocal about his faith. He is his faith. He lives his faith. He couldnt tone it down, its not in him. God is so very prevelent in his life that he says and he does whats in his heart. There is no acting or words for the camera with him. You cant ask someone who has lived his entire life so close to god to "stop" giving him the praise and honor. That is hilarious. Tebow will continue to do what he does because thats who he really is, take it or leave it.

From what I was taught, general order #1 is to preach the gospel to every living creature. I'm talking about Tebow giving praise and thanks to God every chance he gets. <deleted> Mormon kids are out preaching their beliefs. Why can't <other> Christians have the same conviction and stop hiding their faith?

When I said hiding their faith I'm talking about the types who seem ashamed or afraid of admitting their faith to others. Some people, I used to be that guy, won't admit to or profess their belief in God at times when it is not convenient. I understand new Christians are a little nervous about it at first, but that is something that has to be overcome with time. This is one thing I love about Tim Tebow, he praises God no matter what the situation.

There are very few places in this society that you can start a religious discussion without somebody winding up " offended ".
My grandfather raised me. Very devout, tipped his hat when passing a church. Wasn't a radical, just god fearing and devout.
He had many little jewels for me. One of them " don't discuss religion and politics ", he lived by. Obviously, I don't follow that. But if he lived in today's socialist society, I think he would be in a lot of pain.

I've heard of the guy. I've never seen him play nor read about any of his ramblings.
That said, he's an employee and someone is his boss. In that vane, if his musings are detrimental to the cohesion of the company, he needs to be put on notice. His employment is to make money for the investors of the company. Period. If he fails, he can be sacked just like anyone else.
But!.... He's got a backup (and I ain't talking Jesus). He can play the religion card.
He can wear his religion on his sleeve for all I care. More power to him if he does.
What I'm saying is, if it gets to the point of being non-productive, maybe he should learn a little humility.

One of my oldest friends is an all-star from ASU and a former Bear. He often tells me how different the NFL system is from college football and it takes time to adapt no matter how good one was in college football. Tebow is the real thing and if he's given a chance will prove himself to be just as good a pro as he was in college. He's already proven himself to be a better person than most of the NFL.

Yea, I watched him drop one on his recievers shoulder on a dead run out 40 yards or so to set up the game tieing field goal but prior to the field goal he droped a 15 yard beauty right into the hands of his reciever for what should have been the winning touchdown only the reciever didnt hang on. He looked as good as any other passing QB in the league today and is getting better every game. And they say he cant pass. I think its hillarious how they wrote him off 3 games into his season.

I have not read this thread until this morning, because I am simply completely turned off by any organized team sports. I once played basketball, baseball, and was just getting into football in High School when the coach got us all fired up for a game and I HIT the other line. After the play, one of the other players was being helped off the field and I saw it was the lineman I had hit, doubled up in pain. He raised his head as I approached and he looked into my eyes. His expression was something that still haunts me, and I have not been able to stand to even watch team sports since that day.
That said, I will toss in that I am very proud of ANYONE who is not shy about sharing their faith in Jesus Christ. That places me in the Tim Tebow camp, even though I have never watched him play.
Nor ever will.

He is the absolute real deal. He is building schools and hospitals over in the phillipines for his orphans with his own money. That is not what makes him the real deal. I have followed him since his high school days because I knew he was going to play for florida. The guy just has a heart for god and no peer pressure can change it. I wouldnt care if he ever played another down in another game. He will be successfull in life no matter what. He is just the real deal.

I'm with Terry. I used to be a rabid sports fan and quit cold turkey, coming to the personal realization that I wasn't put on Earth to be a spectator. When I see an ad comparing athletes to warriors and gladiators and men on the battlefield, it makes me want to vomit. There are a lot of things in life worth getting worked up over and cheering for, and sports for me ain't on the list. At the risk of getting flamed, I categorize sports watching as idolatry, but I know, that's just me.
That said, I know much about Tim Tebow, and it's clear he's a target not because of his athletic prowess, but in spite of it. He has confounded the critics and they want him swimming on the same drug-using, wife-beating, dog-fighting police blotter as the rest.
It matters not one iota what we or anyone else say or think about him - he is the genuine article and is living his life as God instructed. Blessings on his house.
