I have always wanted a suppressor. I have several AR15s. All are 5.56 and 3-4 of them are able to accept the same suppressor. I ordered one for 5.56 and decided to go ahead and get one for 45 1911. Now, the wait begins...

Mine is Huntertown, all aluminium, six baffles. They recommend cleaning it by hand with a nylon brush and some Hoppes #9 or any other gun cleaning solvent. They say don't use anything with ammonia in it. I started buying Hoppes #9 by the quart instead of the little 4 oz bottles!

I have been letting it soak for a few minutes in the Hoppes # 9 and then using a bronze bristled brush to get the lead deposits off it. The leading is terrible.

EDIT: The dealer I bought it from told me that he puts his in the brass tumbler with the SS pins. I don't know about that, haven't gotten up the nerve to try that, yet!

My 5.56 is stainless steel and my 45 is titanium and stainless and aluminum. Both are user serviceable.

That's what was confusing about the back and forth last nite. I was scanning different sites looking at the price of, I'll say it, easier to spell, silencers. It was hard to digest I was looking at them but couldn't buy. I understand the confusion with George, I wasn't being clear enough.

I more than appreciate everyone input. Now, one more question, promise, ummm two more;
1) does anyone have a recommendation where I should get the tax license, and is it good from Jan-Dec, or 12 calendar months?
1) Dan mentioned I should get the longer one. Okay with me, looks good mounted.

Dan, I haven't been to the sight you mentioned, yet. Two Hundred off, to me, implies the silencer is probably in the six hundred range, or more. Is that the best I can hope for? If yes, I'm still looking at 800 w/tax stamp.

Thx

Wherever you buy the silencer from will fill out the form 4 and send it to the ATF with your 200.00 check to apply for the tax stamp that is good forever on that item. The company Advanced Armament is offering a 200.00 credit with the purchase of one of their silencers. It doesnt come off of the price of the silencer. You get a credit to buy stuff from them later. They make all sorts of AR parts and accessories. The 45 silencer was 600.00 and the 5.56 was just over 500.

I hear ya. You have to go that route if you want a silencer. Its an illegal law but a law none the less.

#56 ·
Wait time varies but you pretty much have it in a nutshell.

#57 ·
You were also able to file with an eform, a process that takes less time. They arent doing eforms at this time.

Turns out there's several Class III dealers close to my house. I looked silencershops' products over. The least expensive ones have the ol, more or less, get-in-line issues. Makes sense folks with fantasies want a fantasy price. And those were in the 500 dollar range. Then setting up the Trust funds, tax fee... I'm not giving up on it, too soon. I'm adverse to passing on something I want. In the meantime, I'll look around for some baby bottle nipples.

I liked this..

4. Do I give up any rights when I buy a silencer? (Will the ATF start showing up to search my house?)

No.

This often comes up because of the mistaken belief that a "Class 3″ license is required to purchase a suppressor. A "Class 3″ license is a dealer license - and the ATF absolutely can show up to search a dealer's premises; but, silencer buyers don't give up any rights at all.

"Once the Form 4 is approved, the silencer is yours whether you paid for it or not."
It is NOW, via the serial number.....YOURS .
Like a gun you buy, no returns.
Off the subject.......so to speak.....
Someone buys a Taurus. It made two trips to Miami for repair.
A frustrated owner asks WHY WONT THEY JUST GIVE ME A NEW GUN ?
Because of the serial number. It is now registered to..........YOU.

If you somehow didn't pay the receiving FFL for YOUR silencer [suppressor],
and all the paperwork is done...........................
I will bet you that he won't give you YOUR suppressor.
Trust that no one would wish to be in that position. :)

Ah, I look at that again about 3am. :)

Must be nice to have all of the process behind you. I watched George Clooney put one together in some movie, using parts found in a decrepit auto shop. That's the first one I've seen. I guess the idea of a bunch of washers stacked on top of each other is a bit far fetched.

I cleaned one of them another way today and it made these look dirty. When I bought the suppressor, the dealer told me that he used his tumbler and Stainless Steel pins to clean his. I was afraid to try that but I broke down today and cleaned one of the baffles as I was tumbling some .223 brass.

I only did one because if I was going to screw up something, I only wanted to have to buy one baffle instead of six! It came out looking like new. From now on, I am going to throw them all in the SS pins and tumble them for a couple of hours.

#65 · (Edited)
Well, they are not exactly spotless, I can't get those little spots off of them. I am going to try to put ONE of them in the tumbler with the SS pins the next time I clean it.

Yea I remember, I think!!

EDIT: Yeah it is good to have it behind me. After I paid all that money to get the thing, I put it out of my mind right then. I didn't check on it, and did not think of it at all until the dealer called me and told me that I could come over and pick it up!

Its going to be harder for me. They are going to ship them to me in 4-6 weeks and I have to transfer them to my trust and wait. All while having them in my possession.:(

#74 ·
Now that you mention it Josh, I was told that as an FFL I could purchase the suppressors in the FFLs name and wouldnt even have to pay the 200.00 tax and could keep them until I turned in my FFL and then I would have to sell them to an individual. I am not positive that information is correct but if it is, I dont see why I would have to wait.

Thanks Double D. I'm going to look into setting up one here in Idaho :)

Got a full size threaded 1911 barrel in today and fitted it into my Sig STX. It was basically a drop in sig barrel. Got a threaded commander barrel coming tomorrow for my Sig scorpion....

Actually, I can use them as soon as I get them. They will be owned by the FFL (me) so I can do what I please. The average wait time is 3-6 weeks so its been one week so far....tick tick...

Well, according to this, I am not sure I need to..
The CC Ti-RANT 45 is the world's first silencer for .45 ACP pistols that is truly stealthy when fired dry. The average dry sound signature of the Ti-RANT .45 is 133 dB when fired on a Heckler and Koch USP Tactical .45 with Remington 230 grain ammunition. This puts the dry performance of the Ti-RANT .45 squarely in the ballpark of most competitor's 9mm pistol silencers. With a wet charge of 5cc's of water, the sound signature drops to 125 dB. To put it another way, our .45 silencer is quieter than some company's .22 silencers. The Ti-RANT .45 does not stand out among a sea of posers just because of its jaw-dropping performance. Intelligent material selection gives the Ti-RANT .45 unequalled durability in a deceptively light-weight package. The Ti-RANT .45 incorporates AAC's new A.S.A.P. CLUTCH. This highly evolved Nielsen device enables flawless semi-automatic operation on all relevant host pistols, and can be fully disassembled for cleaning or piston replacement with no tools in seconds. The Ti-RANT .45 can be outfitted with pistons threaded M16 x 1 Right Hand, M16 x 1 Left Hand, and two pistons threaded .578-28; one extended for the Sig P-220 and 1911′s with a full length guide rod, and a flush mount for 1911′s with a standard G.I. guide rod. For multi-caliber use, pistons are available in the most common 9mm and .40 thread patterns to allow use of the Ti-RANT 45 on hosts in those calibers.
