I love seeing all the pictures you guys post, but I have to admit that I get a little bent. The portions most of you folks post would make me mad!:D I'm a big eater, and those little portions seem more like appetizers than a meal! Maybe that's the reason I'm over weight!

After being diagnosed as pre-diabetic, I've been on a weight loss program to lose 30# in the hopes that my blood sugar and blood pressure numbers will get where they're supposed to be. It's being monitored by a nutritionist from the VA, and limits me to 1500-1700 calories per day. I can eat whatever I want, I just need to monitor my caloric intake. I also eat 5-6 times a day, with snacks being 100-200 calories. So far it's working with my BP where it should be, and the next blood work at my next checkup will tell about the sugar. I had 3 consecutive readings over 126, with the last one in May being 146. I'm 6-'-1" and started the program on 5-30-14 at 245# (class I obese). I'm now down to 222# (overweight) after 28 days, and feel better than I have in a long time. Just 23# makes a HUGE difference in my stamina. I've also gone back to walking 4-5 evenings each week with my wife. A 2.5 mile brisk walk (40-45 minutes) burns about 340 calories for a guy in my weight & age class. Each of these walks burns off 1/2 of my dinner calories.

Do I miss eating till they chased me away from the buffet? You betcha! But I realized I don't want to stick a needle in my belly every day and prick my finger multiple time each day just to stay alive. I have grandkids I want to take fishing, camping and teach to shoot & hunt, and that would be gone if I kept up my old ways. Everyone has to decide when it's time to do something about eating different and getting healthier. My time is here. I'm almost 64, and I've already buried a couple of my friends who were too macho to give up over eating and over drinking. One guy required 6 pallbearers and two funeral directors to carry his heavy (300#+) dead ass up the hill to the grave site. We joked about getting the cemetery backhoe to drag him up the hill. On the plus side, their widows are enjoying the insurance money, and they're looking kind of hot for "Oldies but Goodies!" We bought one guys guns for what he told his wife that he paid for them. ROFLMAO!!!!

We do that here at the Boats in Shreveport/Bossier. King Crab, all you can eat $20! I eat crab till I give out, and then attack the other sea food they have! I more than get my $$ worth! Wish I could afford to go every weekend!

Hang in there Joe.
I was diagnosed type 2 last August after 2 years of feeling like crap. I’m 6’3 and weighed 280 at the time; drank like a fish, moderation and I were not in the same zip code let alone state, and I didn’t exercise.

I’ve dropped 30#’s since, I’m hitting the numbers they want without medication so far, but I do have to test my sugar every other day, and I have radically changed my eating habits and am exercising daily.

Since then my AC1 went from 7.9 to 5.9 on my last blood test, however, certain foods and beverages(beer) will skyrocket my glucose, so I try and stay away from them as best I can. I may end up on meds down the road, but so far I can control it with diet and exercise.

Sorry carry on with the food thread.

Glad you're getting it under control w/o meds, Roadkil. As for highjacking the thread, I think pictures of healthy foods and taking a bit about can only benefit the rest of the members. The mods mileage may vary.;)

The wife had a wedding rehearsal tonite (she's the wedding coordinator for the church she works at), and her helper brought pizza for them before the rehearsal. So I pulled out a couple of corn totillas and toasted them on the gasa range, and sauteed some sweet onion, green& yellow peppers in EVOO, then tossed in 3-1/2oz. of shrimp. really made for tasty wraps. also had leftover Spanish rice (3oz.) to top it off. Dinner was only 282 calories, so I'm thinking a trip to the ice cream joint to split a small hot fudge sundae with Mama is likely.

I too, watch the calories. I eat one large meal a day and one tiny one that's usually salad with non fat dressing. My average caloric intake is 1,300 to 1,600 a day. I'm actually losing weight though I know you think I eat too much crap. Cholesterol level good, BP OK, blood sugar is a bit high at times, but I don't need shots.

It's a balancing act. Only thing that really hurts is beer. I love the stuff. But, too many empty calories. *sigh*

Homemade ribs, beanie-weinies, Italian pasta salad and potato salad.

Joe, have you tried a very little Splenda Brown Sugar on those sweet taters? I use it all the time, as my potato intake is mostly sweet taters.

#1,561 ·
I enjoy just a pat of butter on my sweet taters. If I want something sweet, I usually add Stevia, but it's not that often.

I bought a pork tenderloin today for $2.98/lb, and made grilled medallions with some steamed broccoli & cauliflower, and potato salad leftover from the 4th.

Me and the Mrs went on a 4.5 mile walk this morning, then a 2.18 mile walk after dinner. We move along at about 3.5 mph, and I burned 1117 calories with those walks. We celebrated and split a small hot fudge sundae after the second walk. It was gooooooooooood! LOL
