Thoughts on misfired primers

I have been getting quite a few misfires when shooting my 222 lately. I went to the range yesterday to try some new loads and 2 out of the 17 rounds I squeezed the trigger on didn't go off. I'm using CCI No. 400's. I pulled the bullets, powder and popped the primers out earlier and compared them to a few in the same pack they came out of. The first thing I noticed was the compound is a different color. Since I only have one rifle that uses small primers I'm curious what everyone else thinks of these. Here is a pic of the primers. The left one is new out of the box and the right one is one that didn't fire. I'll also include a pic of 2 that shot compared to the 2 that didn't.

I have never had any problems with CCI primers, but I have not bought any CCI in a while. I guess it is possible that they can have a bad batch. You might have stated the problem when you said "old gun"! If you know anyone who reloads, you might have him/her try some of your primers to see what results they get.

99% of primer problems are from primers not being seated deeply enough. Ferget any "below flush" dimensions and straight edge gaps, just push the primer all the way to the bottom of the pocket, then just to be sure, a 1/2 extra uumph to make sure.

I've been reloading a long time and honestly, the problems I've had with "bad" primers was my fault. I can't remember when a properly seated primer didn't fire...

At this point I'm not ruling anything out. My thought is, if it was due to the age of the gun, the misfires would be more predictable. I had shot 13 rounds prior to encountering the misfires.
I did re-cock the gun and tried two more times with no luck.
When I seat my primers I feel them hit bottom and give a little extra squeeze on the handle. I don't measure with a straight edge or anything. I only grabbed a straight edge today to give gd a little better idea of how they're seated since he said he thought they may be seated wrong.
What I still don't get is why the compound color on the primers are different since they came from the same pack.
