Hi everyone? I have a IVER JOHNSON single action .45 revolver. I'm just trying to figure out what model and year it was made. It was passed down to me by my grandfather who recently passed away.
Info
On the barrel it has S.A. Cal 45
On the bottom it says 42833 made in Italy and is stamped [AC]
Looks like you can only load one bullet at a time
3 bolts under the revolver and wooden grip. It's in great shape. Thank you for any help
I can't take any credit for helping you - but I looked up what you were asking about because I'd never heard of an old Iver Johnson .in .45 Colt. Most I'd heard of caliber-wise were .22 and .38.
Looks like your Italian made 'Iver Johnson' single action revolver was produced by Uberti in Italy as part of the 'Cattleman' series clones of the Colt Single Action Army revolver. Date of manufacture is probably 1976 to 1980. That is a guess - they are still in buiseness, and you could ask them directly.
If I get too deep into the weeds here I'm going to look silly, but seems that the old Iver Johnson brand was sold to Uberti sometime in the 1970s. Uberti may have branded that revolver with 'Iver Johnson' to give the pistol more of an American flavor with an old American firearm name.
Uberti makes a good quality pistol. I have one of their SAA .45 'Cavalry' models, and it is one of my favorite shooters. Fit, finish and attention to detail - at least on mine - is excellant. Real 'tack-driver'. They even copied the markings from an original Army-issued Colt with everything EXCEPT the Colt logo.
The old Iver Johnson factory was bought by Lou Imperato to house his Colt Black Powder Firearms factory to manufacture Colt 3rd generation percussion revolvers(signature series). IJ did import Uberti's back in the 70's
Alpo, what kind of rear sight is on that customized S&W 1917? Is it one of the kind that attaches via the top sideplate screw? I have an I-frame S&W in 32 Long I'd like to try such a thing on.
