This is the first gun I've bought and I've not yet cleaned it, but need to do so ASAP. Are there are any good tutorials (videos or written instructions) you'd recommend that are very simple and easy to follow? (Perhaps YouTube videos?) I just want the simplest, quickest version for my first time -- just whatever is necessary to keep it clean and in working order for range practice.

Also, do I need to purchase any particular types of cleaner, lubricant, etc?

Thank you!

Did you buy the gun new? If so, one of the best places to go for info is the owner's manual. I think a good practice is to read the owner's manual, then watch a video. Random folks put up many good-looking youtube videos that are full of the wrong information. There are a ton of good general purpose lubes and cleaners. You will need a few different products for a few different tasks. Reading the owner's manual will tell you what types of cleaner and lubes you need. Then you can watch some videos or read some reviews about which brand to get, and what to do with it.

Thanks! I actually did read the manual several times and did not see any mention of a preferred cleaner and oil. I also wasn't completely sure if all the tools needed for cleaning were included, but after viewing the video below it seems like they are, except for the cleaning patches for which I assume scraps of fabric will work. (?)

this is all you need to know about cleaning your Glock
Hickok45 is one of the most respected gun guys on youtube.
Thank you; this is very helpful! Really helps to see it done in detail. The manual doesn't have pictures of every step. This is great! I appreciate your digging that up for me. : )

You could get away with the "right" scraps of fabric. Be careful though. Many fabrics will not stand up to solvents or might be too easily ripped to push through the bore. Cleaning patches are quite inexpensive, well worth the few bucks you have to spend. As far as cleaners and lubes, Glock probably doesn't specify a brand of cleaner or lube, just what "types" go where. Some parts want to be cleaned with different cleaners than others. Some parts want to be oiled, some greased. The manual with give you a good baseline before you look at a bunch of videos with differing opinions.

I echo the fact that you should watch the video from Hickok45. As was said, he is one of the best. Another good thing, once you know how to take down one model of Glock, you know how to take down any of them. At least that's what I have found.

I do not own a glock but here is a video that I found. My sound does not work so I have no Idea what is being said!!

Gmoody you really ought to get sound on your PC, you're missing a doozie. :) The whole video is based on what an official "Glocksmith" told him in regards to properly cleaning a Glock pistol. Seems like you can toss out all your cleaners, powder solvents and oils and just run down to Walmart and buy a box of baby wipes! That's it, just wipe it down with a baby wipe, let it air dry a few seconds then put a dab of grease on the slides and you're all set! The funny part comes at the end where says he'll keep all his cleaners, oils, etc for all of his AR's, shotguns and other guns but it's baby wipes for the Glock.

WOW!
