I just ordered this H&R Target Model, which is not really what I normally collect, but caught my eye as a shooter / collector to go with my growing collection of 1930s handguns. However, I think I may have made a mistake - it's marked 22 Rim Fire and I'm now finding out that a lot of the 7 shots H&R made in this era were chambered in .22 WRF instead of .22 LR. I've done some research online and from what I can find the .22 WRFs should be marked 22 WRF and the .22 LRs should read 22 Long Rifle. I see earlier models were marked .22 Rim Fire and chambered .22 Short & .22 Long, but it's my understanding that anything from this era should be .22 LR or .22 WRF? Can anyone educate me? If it can only shoot Shorts and Longs I can live with it since I can get Shorts locally, but I have no idea where I'd find .22 WRF in Canada. Thanks in advance for the help!

Technically .22WRF and .22Mag have larger bores than the .22S/L/LR - but many manufacturers just game them the same barrels(different chambers). Do not shoot .22Short/Long/LongRifle in a .22WRF chamber. The .22WRF is larger in diameter because, like the .22Mag, it is seated within the case. Whereas the .22S/L/LR is heel seated.

EDIT:
With that gun being a "small frame", it may be of the .22S/L/LR lineage.. Sportsman models were "large frame" guns.

I know CCI still loads .22 WRF (although I imagine that's on hold while the rimfire shortage lasts), but I don't know anyone that carries it up here. I'm used to shooting oddball calibers, so I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world, although I bought this one thinking I wouldn't be.

If it does turn out to be a .22 WRF I'm sure it was just ignorance on the part of the seller, I've dealt with them a lot in the past and they've never done me wrong.

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm having suspicions that it is a .22S/L/LR because it is a small frame. Small frames were 7 shot in .22S/L/LR.

Large frames were 9shot in .22S/L/LR and 7shot in .22WRF.

Hi all! Received the gun today, and it's in just gorgeous condition. Obviously wasn't shot much. It's definitely not a .22 WRF - a .22 Mag won't even begin to chamber. I fired a .22 Short through it without any issues, and a .22 LR will chamber but the bullet is almost to the front of the chamber. No reason to think I shouldn't shoot LR in this, is there?

It's a neat gun and I like it a lot, though I do find it amusing they marketed it as a "Target" Model (quotations theirs!) - it's got a long barrel and the grip fits the hand nice, sure, but the sights are almost impossible to see at my indoor range and the trigger is definitely not what I would call target grade! Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy with it, but my Hi Standard Olympic it is not.
