Well yeah........ unless you're in an indoor range where nothing can cross the red line and have an AR-15 that tosses 95% of the cases over that red line! Actually my 40 S&W tosses a good share of casings over the line too, I think most ricochet off the lane divider wall.
Woo hoo........... mine just arrived today! As you mentioned, not bad for $7 when you consider they spent half that on the free postage!
I'm going to the indoor range tomorrow and try it out, hopeful that it will allow all the brass to fall to the bottom and not clog up the upper portion.
First.......... this post IS NOT intended to derail this thread, it's simply my thoughts after using the bag at the range this morning. I used it on my Stag 223 AR-15 and while it did collect the brass, it jammed the chamber twice within 50 rounds being fired and two case necks had melted to the bag. The bag had to be removed each time to be able to even see what was going on.
Upon studying the situation I think that if the bag had been mounted slightly higher and a bit farther aft that the brass might not have jammed up at the opening of the bag. As far as the brass melting to the bag, I simply pulled them off and feel that the black plastic residue will likely turn off when I deburr the cases. All guns are different so this might not happen to anyone else but I thought I'd share what I experienced. Aside from mounting the bag higher and farther aft I think I might sew a small "lasso" to the top middle of the bag which can be looped around my scope mount and hopefully will help hold the upper bag straighter away from the gun rather than drooping right away.
what's even more fun is policing other people's brass after they leave. These catchers pay for themselves in no time flat. I just don't want guys near me to buy them
I have one like that and it works great with the zipper open. With it closed it still works great but some of the cases will stick to the nylon. Much better than shooting for 10 minutes and looking for brass the next 20 minutes!
I have an idea how I can catch my brass, a box! Since we sit down with a table at the range I can have the box with the hole right next to the eject port of my MP15.
Let us know after a while how that's working out for you, probably everyone has tried it or something similar! Nothing more irritating than having HOT brass flip in the box then bounce back out landing on your arms, or the bench... right where you lay your arm or hand down a second later...... yeah, those are fond memories! I just got tired of the box being on the bench along with the spotting scope, extra ammo boxes, full and empty magazines, note pad, coffee thermos, coffee cup and a bag of Oreos! Something had to go, either the box or the bag of Oreos..... guess which one went.
LOL, you are making it an outing. I don't think my range are going to let us bring a picnic basket. The box will have cloth hanging inside.
Have you thought of that?
