I find a half size Iver Johnson revolver in Germany, the guy from the shop use it as a ashtray in his shop.
I buy it from him because i was thinking it,s a S&W topbreak.
The model is abouth 16 inch long and weight 7,5 pounds!
When i look good to the model i see that its not a S&W action bud a Iver Johnson Hammer the Hammer action.
I starting the search on the WWW and found one on a wall display with a mechanical motor drive.
Its sold at Rock Island Auction 5 months ago. http://www.icollector.com/Scarce-Iv...Hammer-the-Hammer-Motorized-Display_i18627704
Anybody here they know what this model is worth or the history of the model?
I've seen Iver Johnson cut aways before but never a display piece as that, yes it is collectable and there are those would would want it, but value, wow, don't know because I have never seen one for sale before. If only 12 were made and yours is the 4th one to be known, perhaps it is worth several thousand. It is clearly designed to show the " Hammer the Hammer " safety system . It would be nice if Bill was here to expound on it, but like they say, if a frog had wings..........
Any factory peripheral cut away of a firearm that has gone into production is worth money. However there are so few that a set dollar amount cannot be given.
It is impossible to say it is worth a fortune or the price of an ashtray.
Only a well advertised auction can give you an idea of it's worth.
The linked auction is a pretty good indicator. Your model was most likely just like the one pictured at one time, that is black and color case hardened. Yours appears to have been cleaned long ago and the brass has achieved a nice patina. It is rare and these things seem to bring a hefty price when sold properly.
From what the owner of the auctioned unit said, it is my understanding your Iver Johnson display is very rare and desirable. Supposedly, there were only 12 of these made and only 3 or 4 known to still exist.
I believe the material the half revolver is bronze, not brass. The original coloring was almost black.
Can you remove any of the working components from the casting and look on the back side of each for a small number stamped on them?
I own one of these and my parts are all stamped with a number "10".
@Sprint
The material is bronze yes.
I am out of town now,the weekend i am back and remove the parts. Lets see what,s number they have!
Can you place a pic of your display?
Thanks for the information on the numbers. The numbers were stamped with the part in the operating position and should clarify whether it is a "6" or "9".
The attached photo of my sample (not as good as yours) as you requested. The other photo is of a factory display taken in 1955. This is the only floor mount I have seen of this display revolver.
The number is a "6".
Thanks for sharing your pics !
Regards,
Ton
