Morning all
I was looking for my stand alone powder measure and can't find either of them. So I went shopping this morning and the prices I found on-line have me in shock, to say the least I need to get out more often .
Before I go spend $80.00 of something I was wondering which one you use and what you like or dislike about it ?
I haven't given up on finding mine just yet I could get lucky I still have boxes to look through.
Ron, I've always used an RCBS Uniflow and it has proven sufficient for my needs. There are, of course, much more sophisticated ones available, but they are not cheap. The RCBS runs around $70.00 or so, and if you get the stand to go with it, add another $20.00.
for large quantity reloading i use my rcbs digital scale with auto dispensor. but for the money, lee has what they call lee perfect powder measurer. midway has it for about $19.00 it is very accurate for the money
I have a lee perfect powder measure that I was going to replace because it seemed like a cheap peace of junk, but a guy at the store told me it was good so I stuck with it. If he was willing to lose a sale over it I figure I'll stick with it.
I like the ole Lyman 55, they're rock solid. I do have a Lee Perfect Powder Mea. It works good for the price but they do leak, some powders more than others (not too bad w/Flake). Since I have gotten a 550B tho, the others don't get used much.
I have a 2 Lyman 55's, one with a Sinclair BR insert. Great powder measures! I also have a Hornady. But, my all-time favorite is a Belding & Mull. It is a little slower but, BY FAR, the most accurate with any type of powder
I really like my RCBS Uniflow, been on the bench for a lot of years. I don't use it as much as I use the Dillon on my 550B, but it still throws an accurate powder measure, used it for 100 rounds of .380 just today. I will keep it for .380 and .223 loads, don't like to think of that tiny case on a progressive, and the .223 only needs two dies after I size and de-prime. Lee Turret does fine for those two loads.
I use RCBS, Lee and Lyman. When checking them for accuracy with my RCBS scale, the Lee is the most inaccurate of them all. Always throws up to 5 grains + or -. The Uniflow throws the most consistent & accurate charges.
RCBS for rifle and Lee for pistol.
I have two reloading setups.
Some equipment is for rifle reloading and the other is for pistol. The only reloading piece of equipment the two share is one very old RCBS scale.
I have 2 lee's, a Lyman 55, and an RCBS. Use the Lyman the most, the lee's for some stuff, and I can't remember where I put the RCBS, so I don't use it much. Some body really dug to bring this thread up, Ron has been gone awhile now. In fact one of my Lee measures came from him.
I use RCBS on my progressive press for Titegroup and it works fine, throwing consistant loads. I use a Lee for my .223 and .243, using Vihtavouri N140, and it throws reasonably consistant loads +/- 0.1 grain.
Most replies you'll get for a "what's the best..." question is the tool/equipment the feller responding owns. I have used the Lee off and on for 25+ years, and just like any powder measure, it does better with some powders than others (my Lee will hold +/- 50/100ths of a grain of W231). Check this comparison (scroll way down). I read it a year or two ago and bought a CH 502, works great! http://www.lasc.us/Brennan_6-4_PowdersAnd Measures.htm
I use Redding and RCBS. I have a Redding Match 3BR and a RCBS Quick Change Hi-capacity and both work very well for me.
