I have a family ‘heirloom’ Iver Johnson 16 Gauge shotgun (serial number is 69786). The Iver Johnson name and address on the left side of the gun has been double stamped. The two stamping are slightly off but legible. I was told a long time ago that such a marking would increase its value, but after looking at them online I am not sure of that anymore.

I have taken this shotgun hunting a couple of times in the 90’s and 00’s, and recall the fore stock falling off after shooting modern loads thru it. Only later did it learn there was a difference between black powder and smokeless powder shotgun shells. Not sure which version this one is.
Does anyone know when this shotgun was manufactured and what it is worth? Not interested in getting rid of it, I just curious about how old it is and if the stamping would make a difference.

I will try to post a picture of the double stamping later today.
