After looking all over the net and in catalogs I strolled over to Scheels tonight. I found a very helpful guy who shoots the same cartridge. He showed me all the choices and actually steered me away from Nikon and Leopould. I asked why and then he showed me. When looking through them I got tunnel vision and the eye relief was finicky. Finally I did a side by side comparison of comparable models of Nikon, Leupold, and Vortex. The latter brand just impressed me the most. He slapped them all on dummy rifles and I tried shouldering them all. Each time I brought the vortex up the image was right on par and gave me the most confidence. Finally I walked out the door with a Diamondback 4-12X40 with dead-hold style reticle for $150. And it comes with a lifetime warranty. He even said if I get it mounted, try it at the range and am not happy I will get a full refund. Talk about custom service!!!

Range report to come Sunday night

I discovered them a few weeks ago when I bought their 10x36 monocular and am impressed.

By "tunnel vision" I mean some of the scopes you could see the internals around the edge. Kind of like looking through a paper towel tube and you can see the inside walls. Not with the Vortex. This thing is all image. The $500 ones may be the same way but I may never know.

You got an excptional deal. You won't be disappointed in Vortex optics, I own three. Congrats.

Oh btw, the Vortex site has some videos demonstrating their products and how to use the reticals some are pretty helpful.

In my defense I didn't say which Sunday. I was busy and haven't had time to find rings to mount it. Tomorrow night I will hit Scheels and try some options. But I have to replace a broken sewer pipe under the basement floor also, so the range report may be delayed a bit

Bummer, good luck with that pipe don't (don't envy that job).
