1911 in either 9mm or 45..both types of ammo is plentiful and easy to learn to reload..so once you stock on componets, ammo should not be a problem..and if SHTF both should still be around as well!
I've been seriously considering a revolver lately. Probably a 357, but if I go single action, it might be 45 or 44mag. I'd like a S&W N frame but they're hard to find here and priced like gold.
I have a few .22 caliber hand guns. I also have a few .38/.357's. I have a couple of .380's. Every thing else I own is either .44 or .45. If I were to buy a new hand gun today, it would be in either .44, or .45.
Wow, talk about a wide open question! Depends on what you have already. As others have posted, if you don't have a 1911, you need at least one. I'll go for a specific make and model that isn't a 1911.
A SIG 226 in 9mm. No matter how many times or often I shoot it, it always feels just right, like cozy slippers.
Since I'm spending your money I'll get the BFR 45-70 5-shot revolver. I might have to change the way I dress to conceal it, but that gaping hole in the end of the barrel would sure get somebody's attention.
Go to a gun show because of such a large volume of guns and you can grip them like at an assembly line instead of a LGS where you get one or may be two at a time. What ever you grip that doesn't feel right is temporarily eliminated. When you narrow that down. Then try to figure out which one you will actually carry. Once you have that figured out, then check out the holsters to see what will actually work for your frame. Then go to a gun range and see if you can find that critter and shoot with it. Can't find the gun, check when the range is crowded and watch some one who has that gun. Offer to buy them some bullets if you can take a turn at shooting it. Most will let you. Do some rapid recoil shots last since the range guy may boot you and find out if you have the control in the 3-7 yard range. Sneak up on that speed as you can watch your spread. If you can't make some decent quick shots, will different sights correct that, will different loads correct that? Finding a gun normally takes work for me. Some guns feel great but I don't do well on their recoil shots. That is why the words "temporarily eliminated" above was used. Do the homework and don't settle for just the eye appeal.
Here's a great bargain with awesome reviews used by police and military for $299 in 9mm.Comes with two 18 round mags.Everyone claims the gun never has jams or misfires.
Depends on how much you want to spend. The big thing is how it feels in you hand and when you shoot it. Also if looks are a big issue. I like guns that go BANG when I pull the trigger. Even though I have both revolver and autos. I perf. revolvers.
yep, what do you want to spend? what are you going to do with it? I suggest you find a shop with a range that will rent pistols to try. Try a few that look good to you. You'll find one that is comfortable with an acceptable amount of recoil. If you're going to carry it, size certainly does matter.. Do you want to carry around a 44oz (empty) 1911 all day? I doubt it. I tried a 40 S&W for a while, sold it and bought a Kahr .45. 19 oz empty very little recoil for a 45. But that's just me. Find one you like and go with it.
Pretty easy question to answer actually. Buy one of these Cabot "south paws" and when you realize that it's made for lefties, I'll take it off your hands for about half price, cause I couldn't see spending $5750 on a pistol.
I have a few pistols and finally just bought a Remington 1911 R1 . I've wanted a .45 acp for awhile so I went to Gander Mt. and and handled every 1911 they had in stock.Which was most made. The Remington just felt thiner and seemed to fit my a bit small hand. Plus the clerk let me dry fire all of them and to me the lightest smoothest was the Rem. ( Price was not the issue ) I wound up buying one off *********.com. that was new but had been sent away for a super coating ( I can't recall the name now ) plus it had 6 extra SS mags with it for what I would have had to pay for just the gun at Gander. I love it! My son Loves it! and it is dead nuts on! So now the Bullet issue is the expensive part. Until I can get my reloader set up ( haven't done any in about 25 years, so have some reading to do.)
I also got the Bug and am waiting for my newest Ruger MK111 Target Hunter SS with a 6 7/8" fluted barrel. Hope to have it by Friday but probably not until Monday=Bummer
really like reading all your posts, have a great day
