I own a stag handled Kissing Crane stiletto, made in Germany. I've always liked it. Today I found another, but with blue handles. I got it without checking it out carefully and realized when I got home that this one is made in China. I was a little disappointed. Thankfully, I didn't pay as much for it. I thought I had a bargain, but I guess not. Still, it's a good looking knife. Just not German.
Most of the old German brands ( like several US brands ) are defunct and their names have been sold to the Chinese. But what is really sad, many of the Chinese knifes are of good a quality, as the old German made knifes. The China made knifes that AG Russell sells are as good as any on the market.
You'll find this interesting. The older "German" Kissing Crane stilettos were ALL made in Maniago, Italy. None were ever made in Germany. German law allows knives that have been imported into the country to be sold marked "Germany."
Klass had other knives made for them. In general, if the knife only has the 2 cranes logo, it was not made by Klaas. Klass-made knives are always marked with the Klaas name.
I have a few knives in a draw that I've accumulated over the years and here is one of them. It's a kissing Crane switchblade made in the USA.. has a lock on the backstrap and the spring in very strong.
The one on the right was at least assembled here in the US!
