By golly, I think you've found it. My search (just now) for those look so very similar. I've never seen any like these before. I have looked through the "Cartridges of the World", but I must have missed the British Sporting Rifle Cartridges. Thank you. This a GREAT forum.
That is a good possibility. I wish that "Cartridges of the World" gave the dimensions (at least my 4th edition doesn't). I'm wondering how close the .380 British revolver and the .38 Rook rifle are. Thank you.
The lead bullet is quite corroded, so it could have been originally bigger. I compared the unknown with a .38 S & W, .38 Short Colt, and a .38 Colt NP that I have in my collection:
#4 looks somewhat like a 32 S&W short but I don't have the dimensions for it.
