I know this isn't quite the typical gun for this forum but it is a military rifle just upscaled to what you normally see . While I am new to handheld guns (atleast using them) I have had a fascination with naval guns for some time. To see something so big and imagine it firing a projectile the size of a car is just amazing to say the least. Seeing ships like the Massachusetts and Wisconsin are actually is the reason why I'm writing a fictional Battleship book and for atleast 2 years now i've read as much as I can on big guns but of course i'm still no expert which is why I was wondering on your thoughts to this gun. The Russians built this in 1948 for their upcoming Stalingrad class Battlecruisers but after Uncle Joe died they were cancelled and the guns never saw service. I was reading the Navweaps page for the guns and saw where they were claiming they could get a "lightweight" shell to go out to 80 miles! Now it does say in there to take that with a grain of salt but even if it went 40-45 miles thats huge for a 50's era design (the Iowa's could go about 26 statute miles and had 4 more inches to them). Problem I see is the high muzzle velocity which helps get the range (and the really long barrel) would kill the liners FAST and deck penetration would suck (a problem with Italian guns IIRC) but I was wondering if anyone thought this was plausible for 1948? I may use this gun idea for my book but I don't want it to be completely wrong and I look like a dork :/.
