Mike,

Your New (old) Model 1892 was manufactured in April of 1894. It has received in the warehouse in June of 1894, and it shipped in August of 1894.

Based on what I can see in the pictures you posted, it is in exceptionally nice condition.

I am not saying it was.
But Mike you have it in your hands so you should be able to tell.
Was this gun restored back in the day? Like in the 50s-60s?
I have never seen one in that good of condition.
AGAIN I AM NOT SAYING IT WAS.

I do have the gun in hand so I can tell you it has all original Winchester finish. The blue on the receiver is the bright shiny black with stress lines from age. The loading gate and extractor is the bright fire blue used on springs and some small parts. The barrel is a soft rust blue. The wood is the most hard to believe as it is just about perfect which for a gun of this age is quite remarkable. Here is a link to one close it it but much later being offered by Leroy Mertz us it to compare colors and types of finish. http://merzantiques.com/photo/winchester-92-octagon-rifleThe gun came into the shop from some folks who had no idea what is was. It came in with a beat up Winchester 190, a used S&W 32 top break and a Near perfect 1870s to 80 Hopkins and Allen XL N0 3, which I will picture below. Now when one looks at a gun to determine if it is all correct you look at each individual part and then at the gun as a whole. Each part by itself is correct and in excellent condition. Then when you look at the gun as whole you can conclude if it is this nice then there is no reason why it should not all match in condition. Excellent metal should have great wood. The wood does not have the typical oil stains but if all the gun did was sit it was not constantly being oiled. When I first got the gun it had just the lightest of fuzzy rust starting. It all came off with 0000 steel wool. I listed what it came in with because that also is part of the story. It most likely had been with the older guns for all it life as it is the most recent of the 3 older guns. Two out of three are in next to new condition. The odds of that are quite high. The H&A is the best I have ever see. All of this taken together with my knowledge of original finishes says this gun is 100 percent original. Enjoy the pictures of the H&A as it is a good one to study for what one looked like when they were new. The engraving was factory filled with a black substance for contrast. This is hardly ever encountered. The black on this gun is 100 % as is the nickel plating.

WOW!!!!!!!
Fist that is a great gun you have and the fact that you are sure it's original is REALLY COOL!!!!
As for the pistol I will type more after I stop drooling( the board is getting wet;))
That is a beautiful gun .
I wonder how they put on the black and what they used and If they had to strip off the plating before they put in the black so it would stay and not rub out.
That gives me something to check into because I could use that in some of my projects.
Thanks for the info and the pictures.
I wonder if they did the leafs first, blued the gun then stripped off the blue finished the engraving then plated it. I am pretty sure that when you plate something the plaiting will not stick to the blue just on the bare steel.( But I am not sure).
