I've got a High Standard M4 and want to get something larger for deer / hog hunting. I like the ballistics of the 6.8 as it's close to my .270. But my buddy was expounding on the virtues of the .300. I can get a complete 6.8 upper for around $550 (bushmaster) and really think that's what I want.
Pros and cons accepted gracefully since I'm just beginning research. Thanks for your help!
thanks gd. I ended up buying Remington #700 in .243 A nice older rifle with iron sights still & made in the 80's, I think. Gotta check the serial number.
Don't give up on your AR project, I built a couple of 300 Blackouts and just love shooting them with supersonic ammo (usually load a 125 gr bullet). It is a short range cartridge but will knock a feral hog on it's butt. As previously indicated the only thing you need to change is the barrel (in theory).
6.8 barks good and feels substantial in an ar platform, ur the difference (plus) that you feel fireing 223 in an ar (mild) vs 762 in an AK, is, noticeable difference
