Hmmmm. as a Navy brat about age 6 or 7, I lived in Jacksonville. I recall water mocs about 20 feeeeeeet looooong. And those logs that all of a sudden having teeth that almost got me as my dad yanked me back from the shore. That was several decades ago, may be things have changed. I do recall that I liked the area.
Hi, and welcome from Sitka, Alaska! What type of competitive matches are you interested in? I'm pretty sure NRA publishes a list of upcoming events, so you might consider taking a look on their site to see if any are scheduled in your neck of the woods. Once again, welcome to TFF.
Good luck with getting a response from NRA. I have gone to their site on three occasions. I get email from trhem saying they need volunteers to work in various positions for the upcoming elections. After sending my information three times, I have yet to hear back from them. I'm assuming they are overwhelmed with volunteers.
where are you in Florida and what do you shoot? We shoot Glock GSSF matches in Tallahassee and some of us go to Gator in Gainesville to shoot ATA trap, Olympic/bunker Trap and skeet.
My daughter is the USA Shooting J3 (12 to 14) National Champion in Olympic Trap. Yes we are competitive.
Hi again . Im in the Highlands / Polk Co area , shoot an XD 9mm .. I know about Frank Garcias place but was curious if there was anything else around .. Jacksonville is a long way from me ..

Where do you shoot in Tallahassee? Have you been to that "kinda" new range in Midway? Every time I drive by there, I want to stop and look but I never do.
Talon is a new range. It is a great place to shoot. They are building a great facility. They even have some private shooting lanes. You can pull your car under a cover and have your own lanes to shoot.
They have been very supportive of my daughter and the members of Talon have even helped with some of her expenses holding raffles and auctions for her benefit.
This competitive shoot is an expensive proposition...and I thought buying the Perazzi was the expensive part
Yeah, that's the place. My family lives in Quincy and I go down about 4 times a year. I have been seeing that range from I-10 the last few times (when I go to Tallahassee with my brother). I was curious about shooting there but seeing their prices on the website, I don't think I will visit them.
Talon is hosting a USPS shoot. Check their website for more info...
at Talon Range Saturday Sept. 6th
When: Saturday, September 6th. Stage set up begins at 7:00. Sign up starts at 8:00. Shooters meeting at 8:30, with start of match immediately following. If it looks like we will have heavy / dangerous weather, I will make the go / no-go call as early as possible. We will have access to the range Friday night(s) before the match, and I will be out there around 5:30 setting up stages. If you'd like to come out and help, and it would be appreciated, or want to check out the range, come out and see me!
Where: Talon Range. We are located at the interchange of Interstate 10 and US 90 in Midway, FL at the 192 exit (technically the North East corner).
- From I-10, exit at 192 onto US 90 West. If you are coming from the West on I-10, you will make a left turn onto US 90 and proceed under the interstate to a stop light. If you are coming from the East on I-10, you will immediately come to a stoplight. To the West (left) you will see a Flying J truck stop (cheapest gas in the area, BTW), and to the East (right) will be a service road called Commerce Blvd that winds back towards the interstate. Turn onto Commerce Blvd. and drive .5 miles. Talon Range will be on your right hand side. For those of you with GPS, the coordinates are: N 30* 29.425' by W 84* 25.278'. Our address is 550 Commerce Blvd Midway, FL 32343 (Note the city is Midway FL, not Tallahassee). The road leading into our range is nicely maintained, so for all of you Ferrari owners out there, have no fear of making it down to the range.
What: 6 stage USPSA match. Match entry fee will be $20 ($15 for those under 1
. Cash or check are fine-no cards. Our match will consist of 6 challenging courses of fire--five field courses plus one USPSA classifier stage. Total round count will be 158 rounds, assuming you don't miss. Our range was designed for competitive shooting, so expect a real USPSA match--179* ranges, steel--everything you ever wanted in a USPSA match!
Talon is a COLD RANGE. No bagging or un-bagging of firearms in the parking lot. Safe areas will be provided and clearly marked.
If you shoot IDPA, Here is the Florida State IDPA calendar http://range29.com/?page_id=2015 There are matches every weekend that are within a 2 hour drive of most places.
If you shoot USPSA The Wyoming Antelope Club has a match every Tues and Fri evening. They have a Weekend match on the 4th Sat. The Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club has their monthly match on the 3rd Sun. The OK Corral Gun Club in Okeechobee has their monthly match on the 4th Sat.
If you shoot Steel Challenge, most of these clubs have a monthly match for that as well, just go to their website and look up what weekend they are.
Welcome from Illinois. We have a lot of competition matches up here but I know that's no help to you.
