First, let me thank all who have have been helpful in the past answering questions regarding updating and reloading my Remington 700 20" bull 308. Now that the stock has been replaced and bedded in, I am most pleased with the results at 100 yds. Moving a step up the ladder in the learning process, we checked the length of the rifle chamber using a 168gr Sierra MK to touch the rifle lands. I have had great luck loading these rounds with AA2495 39.6gr @ 2.80". With the OAL guage we determined that bullet hits the lands at 2.92", a jump of 0.12" on this bullet. I have been told this is common with this rifle. I was considering loading to a longer COAL, perhaps pulling it back 0.01 to 0.02" off the lands. Your thoughts? In the same regard, what would be a suggested starting load moving the bullet out 0.10 to 0.11" with 39.6 to 44.0 range on the 2.80" COAL?
I shoot single shots through this rifle, do not use the magazine.
Thanking you in advance,
