have noticed web prices are going up pretty stiffly lately.

38sw is pretty easy to get ( prvi, fiiochi .. etc.. ) but 455 not so much. i know hornady will run some but not too much else new...

why the sudden interest?

I've been seeing more S&W 455's over the last 12 month's.
I don't know where they are coming from but I found ammo at the flee market for $30.00 a box.
Mine has been bored out and will shoot 455 or 45 LC and 45 ACP.
It's a good dependable gun, at some point in time, mine was nickel plated degrading the collectors value but I will sell it for $4000.00 if anyone is interested.

you are right, the interest has been high for several months now. I had a Mark 4 in 38 SW and I really didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I have been wanting a top break revolver and I think I'd rather have a modern Schofield repo so I took my Web to a gun show and waked around with it and a dealer paid me cash, $450 exactly the price I was asking. He didn't even try to talk me down.

Can't really say with regard to the Enfield and Webley .38s, except that there are just so many out there and supplies are dwindling daily. As for the .455s, as well as SMLEs, P-14s, Berhiers, Lebels, US M1903s and '17s, US M1917 Colts & Smiths etc., this year is the centenary of the beginning of WW1, and I'm sure that's spiked collectors' interest, plus the supply of these arms has been dwindling at an ever increasing rate.

You just have to know where to look. Here are some Webleys I have picked up in the last several months...

$300 Unfortunately it has been whizzed....

$100 and he threw in the next one.... (also whizzed)

Finally one I've had for a number of years... Belonged to a WW1 RAMC Doctor I've researched and display with an example of his medals.... (Not whizzed)

Sorry, local description of a shaved cylinder to shoot 45ACP or 45 Auto Rim.
If you look closely at the first picture you can see the spacer I have that allows me to shoot .455's in it.
I haven't quite decided what to do with the "belly gun" (Big Belly....).I figure I will whip up some sort of a front sight and see how it shoots. It's actually in pretty good condition other than the missing metal from the barrel and cylinder......

spacer looks nice, I've experemented with filing moon clips but makes them fragile, thus my move to get 45 ar components, how'd you make your spacer? Do you have equipment to do this like a machine shop or was it home brew, if you do make them, do you sell them? If so, don't reply here, pm me. There is a rule about no sales offerings in the non specific non sales forums.

looks like a nice job on the spacer, good idea too, your idea?

did you mount the spacer or is it free floating like a moon clip? Thanks for the pics

I didn't make it, but picked it up on eBay ($20). I just looked and they don't seem to be available currently. I remember he offered them is several thicknesses in case your shave job was a little off.
If you are interested you might try contacting user "macetay" on eBay to see if he is going to make any more.

I left mine free floating as I have a couple of whizzed Webleys and I also wanted to have the option of using .455, 45ACP or 45AR.

As for me making some, I've been thinking about but haven't quite figured out how to do it with my existing equipment.

thanks for the info.

I PROBABLY have the equipment / capability to make them if i have the correct metal stock to start with. I have been playing with filing moon clips. but it makes the fingers thin when filed enough to hold 455. that full ring would fix that for sure.

I bought one of the spacers on Ebay ($20). Found it quite by chance after entering the term Webley Parts in the search box - I was looking for a .455 cylinder at the time. The guy makes them for the MkVI width cylinders, but can also make them for earlier dimension.

i finaly found the user search ( thanks fo rhte instructions! ). but it said macetay was not found?

i probbaly did something wrong..

if you get a reply, i'd love to hear if he is selling them. they look good. i'm sure i could make them. but if they are already being made. might as well get one i know works, than do all the R&D and likely have to buy a piece of metal that could make 100 of them....

OOPS! The combination of bifocal shift, poor typing and general sloppiness keeps catching up with me..
I know the feeling. My eyeballs are aging faster than I can schedule checkups for new eyeglass lens prescriptions, and I type with two fingers and a thumb. More often than not I've found myself using the big honkin' magnifying glass my better half uses for her intricate crochet work and fancy sewing projects. :)

i used to type good. 90-120wpm.. and back when i could see the keyboard better, and the keyboard was a real keyboard and not something crammed onto a phone screen, or a lil chicklett bar on a tablet. now i type terrible!

I considered making spacers for my shaved cylinder Webley .455's but then I asked myself, 'why bother?' In fact, I like loading with a moon or half moon clip - these clips are great speed loaders. What I do for my shaved Webleys (2 of them) is load .45 acp brass with .455 hollow base MKII cast bullets. This combination, 45 acp brass with a Webley MKII bullet, works extremely well.

i like to try to shoot my 455 brass ( i have a colt victory revolver as well ).. and by the time you file a moon clip down enough to get a 455 in,, it's paper thin.. thus that spacer will be jst the trick.

I do have full moon clips and acp brass, as well as AR brass that negates needig the spacer / moon clip

I bought the spacer on the slim to nothing chance our LGS ever receives the .455 ammo I ordered about two years back.
