Anyone else shooting the Gunsite Scout model? I have tried a handful of different factory ammos through it and found that Federal Premium 168grn (Sierra bthp) shoots pretty decent.
Remington Core-Lokt 150grn is OK.
PMC 147 grn fmj-bt shoots terrible.
I did a small batch of reloads with 41.0 grn of IMR 4064, with Nosler 168 grn ballistic tip hunting bullets and Winchester std large rifle primers. They shot pretty good.

Does anyone have a load recipe for a lightweight bullet? 1:10 RH twist, 16.5" barrel.

This is an all purpose rifle for me and I am looking for something lighter for coyote. I know it's major overkill, but it's what I have to work with.

If yer 168 gr. load is accurate, why not use that? The coyote won't much care about 40 grains different in bullet weight, dead is dead. Just because a bunch of fellers like to use "weight appropriate" bullets (kinda like varmint shooting PC), does not mean you cannot shoot what is most accurate in your gun.

Like mikld mentioned there's nothing wrong with using the bullet weight that your rifle prefers.

165-168gr in .308 or .30-06 works fine on coyotes. Even if you're using one of the superlightweight 100-120gr "varmint" bullets in the .30 cal they're going to blow right through a coyote and they make a mess of the hide. As in they look like you peeled em inside out. :D
A match BTHP or a deer/elk-size game hunting bullet will drill through a coyote pretty much like an FMJ will with minimal damage to the hide. They still fall over dead.
Now this assumes that you're a hide hunter like myself. If you're just looking for population control then use whatever works best since pelt condition doesn't matter.

My "all-around" rifle for many years now is a 25-06. I used to have separate deer and yote loads for it but I just plain settled into using my deer load for coyote too. Only one bullet drop table to remember, I don't have to check zero between seasons, and it works for both critters.
The same goes for our .270s. KISS principle. :)

I have thought about just using the 168 exclusively. Outside of the factory ammo mentioned above, I haven't tried anything else. I was just wondering what other people were having good results with.

Bindernut, I'm not necessarily a hide hunter, but if I get a nice one I will have the pelt tanned and make a wall hanger out of it. I have a couple of farms to hunt this year. Hopefully they will be productive.
