What gun would you recommend that is comparable to the Keltec PF9 in size and reliability, but not a double action?

The H & K P2000 does come with a single action trigger it is the VO/CDA submodel

The Beretta PX 4 Storm Compact is also DA/SA

I'm glad you started this thread. I began looking into this subject last week and got sidetracked
these were two I had looked at.

I have never owned a PF9 so I really don't know what size it is. When I think of Keltec pistols, I think "small pistol". The only thing that comes to my mind would be the Sig Sauer P938, it is a 9mm and it is small. Comparable, I don't know about size, but it sure ain't comparable pricewise!!

I've never even owned a 9mm.

If you weren't stuck on the "No DA" I'd certainly point you in the direction of the SCCY CPX-2, I picked one up and after about 250 flawless rounds through it from about five or six different manufacturers, it's just about taken over my "favorite pistol" spot...

Its a kel tec copy from a guy that started a company after leaving kel tec.

well, in the tradition of .... well not really any thing like that... I just wanted to look at guns ok?

I went into a LGS yesterday and they had an H&K 2000, and a Beretta PX4
The H&K is quite a gun I was really impressed. I have big hands and it It just feels like a tough as nails weapon. The only bad thing is that the price tag was $900

The Beretta Storm is also a little bulldog of a gun. I loved it and loved the price also at $430
both are hammer fired guns with decockers and DA/SA actions

I went to sleep last night thinking about the Beretta.. I felt kind of dirty knowing that my wife was right there next to me while my thoughts were in a gun case on the other side of town.:D

IMHO, anyone that would think that you had to be perfect to own a 9mm pistol just ain't right!:D

Y'know, I was just noticing how in danger Keltec is from Hurricanes & heavy weather...
low lying area, on the Atlantic coast...no wonder they have a hard time putting out
enough production...probably get weather stoppages all the time ;)

One day, gun co's will realize that Northwest Fla is the place to be...
closer to the rest of the US, not as many hurricane strikes...same amount of bikini's...
and WAY more conservative & gun-friendly than South Fla :D

Here is one of many postings on the subject from another forum

There's a reason that it looks just like a Kel-Tec. The SCCY originator used to work with Kel-Tec, got in an argument and started his own company and basically copied (stole?) the P-11 design, adding a safety to it and changing a few other minor items. Kel-Tec didn't bother suing, as there was no patent filed on the designs.
The Company was originally named SKKY but got sued by the Vodka people and changed the spelling. The factory (IIRC) i just a few miles away from Kel-Tec.

The Early Model (CPX-1?) was trash. Many on the SCCY Forum hated it. I hear that the newer CPX-2 may be better. My LGSs don't carry them, so I haven't bothered to check one out.

I own 3 Kel-Tec's : P3AT, PF-9 & PLR-16 Nothing wrong with any of them. All 3 have been 100 percent reliable. They are small, light & more accurate than I can shoot. As such they are highly concealable & not very fun to shoot. I believe most of the bad raps they get are from limp-wristing & re-loads. They have lifetime warranties & from what I hear, excellent customer service. Great guns for the price!

The difference in felt recoil between the Keltecs and the SCCY is worlds apart. Plus Keltecs warranty is to the original purchaser while SCCY's follows the firearm.

The only place I can find the rumor that the founder of SCCY worked with Keltec is in the usual Keltec forums...

I owned one of these right after the company was started and it seems that it was advertised that the owner used to be at kel tec. It really doesnt matter either way, the gun is a direct copy of the kel tec. The original version was spelled differently and they had a huge issue with the design of the manual safety that nearly ended things right off the bat. The safety would engage after a couple of rounds due to it hitting your hand during recoiling. I shot maybe 100 rounds thru mine and it went into the safe until someone wanted to buy it. I almost wouldnt sell it to them but I disclosed the issue first and they still wanted it. The company called me a couple years back wanting to send me a catalog and I asked them if they had corrected the issues and they assured me they did. I never purchased any for the shop...

You know, I thought the first one I had was a SKKY and was a piece of junk. I bought two of them when I was a class 01 dealer, a few years ago. Got one for me and one for my Son, some thing in the trigger mechanism broke within the first 50 rounds. I had not fired mine yet, so I unloaded it.

The one I bought from my LGS about 18 to 20 moths ago was a lot better gun. It was a SCCY , I traded it off after a month or so.

That's just like the small Ruger LCP is a copy of a Keltec. If it's not, it missed a great chance!

One thing I notice across the boards is that both Ruger and Keltec owners always seem to say "They aren't fun to shoot" or that they are "carry a lot and shoot a little". Now granted I only have a little under 300 rounds through my SCCY CPX-2, but I can say honestly that it's fun to shoot and the recoil is no reason to not shoot it a LOT. It's accurate and ran 115gr FMJ's from Fiocchi, Federal and Blazer, and 115gr Remington and 124gr Winchester PDX1 bonded JHP's without a single hiccup one. Lifetime warranty that follows the pistol AND if it's stolen, will replace it if you send them a copy of your receipt and police report. They pay shipping for any returns for warranty work. Hickock45 did a real nice video on one he picked up on a whim when he left his carry gun at home, and there's also a "torture test" video on youtube where they ran 6000 rounds through one, between 4000-5000 rounds of mostly steel case without cleaning it.
