Ok I'm new to the reloading process. I just picked up the Hornady LNL single stage kit from my local gun store b/c is was on sale for a great price and the 500 free bullets just made it even better. I was looking around the forum for bullets and i keep seeing Berry's come up and there about the cheapest I have found but my question is are they quality bullets? I'm not to worried about the 9mm or 45acp bc I will just be targeting with them but the 223 I plain on hunting with so I want some accuracy for sure. Just wondering everyones opinion on them. Thanx in advance for the help.
The only 22 caliber bullets I see listed on berrys website are fmj's and Hornady match bullets. I personally wouldn't take either of those hunting. JMO
Their .223 bullets are FMJ, the pistol bullets are plated. But what ever, I agree that FMJ are not really the best hunting bullets. The ones mentioned above are good for hunting.
FMJ would be the worst possible choice for hunting anything humanely. Spring a few extra bucks and get some good expanding bullets for hunting. Nosler, Hornady and BarnesX bullets come to mind.
Is there any place in this country where FMJ is legal for hunting deer. Ignoring the question of "would it be a good bullet". Would they arrest you and confiscate your gun and truck if they catch you using one?
Don't know if it's legal or not, but I've dropped a couple of deer with FMJ. They work fine, if you make a good shot to the head, spine, or neck. These shots were made on my own land.
Guess I should have stated what I was shooting. It will be for 150-200 yards in some fun matches and for coyotes only no deer. I have a 7mm for them. But we have a bunch of coyotes.
I'm sure the berrys fmj bullets would work well for paper. I still wouldn't take a fmj to hunt coyotes. For coyote hunting, I would look at the Hornady v-max or Combined Technologies silvertip bullets.
I like the boxes Berry's Bullets come in.They are very handy to keep your finished reloads in.I just take a full one to my shooting spot and when it's empty or almost empty I figured I shot enough that day.I have 4 or 5 empty black plastic cases. Now I'm using Extreme because they are cheaper for me but Berry's are fine quality,I liked them.
Berry's bullets are fairly soft lead, copper plated bullets (check their website for construction). Hornady bullets are good jacketed (a copper/brass shell filled with lead) bullets of varying construction for specific purposes. I have not seen plated bullets for the .223 as velocities exceed the manufacturer's recommendations (1250 fps.). Perhaps a good text/reference would help with the basics; The ABCs of Reloading, and/or Lyman's 49th Edition Reloading Handbook...
wow thank you for the extrem link those are cheaper for sure and im going to shoot a lot of 9mm. I will run the Berry's for paper but will stick with Hornady for the hunting thanx a lot for the input guys!!!
no elephant here or hippo.. but a huge bear is just as dangerous.. etc..
