Springfield makes the XDs in 9mm, .40, and .45ACP. Why can't S&W do the same with their Shield? I'd be all over that like a liberal on a stack of food stamps. I borrowed an XDs in .45 from a friend and aside from it not fitting me the way my shield does I really liked it.

Is there a physical or mechanical reason it isn't made?

I wonder how well the 4.0 models sell compared to the 3.3 models. For me owning an XDs is about minimum weight and overall length, making it a compact yet comfortable CCW weapon. I've noticed that the 4.0 models are about $50 cheaper than the 3.3 models which tells me they aren't selling nearly as well as the 3.3s

I have the XDs and Shield--both in 9mm. I like them both, but I also find the Shield feels a bit better in my hand. I have seen nothing that indicates S&W will offer a .45 version anytime soon. Some speculate that it would require a total redesign---I don't know.

I've wondered why they don't make the SD in .45. The 9mm and 40 versions sell for about $300. I would think a 45 version, in that price range, would be a popular seller. I'd get a 45 over a 40 anyday.
