I first shot the platform when I joined the army in 1976. I didnt shoot one again for 25 years and I now have 7-8 of them. Funny thing is I never forgot how to tear one down and reassemble. It came right back to me....

i'm impressed by the military guys that can do this. I remember when i got my first ar a couple years ago. had it out at the range. my buddies niece had come back in town with her husband. they were both on leave ( army she is a helicopter mechanic, he is an ordinance disposal tech ). anyway.. my gun needed lubing prior to use and i was setting there fidgiting with it, he asked 'may i' I said SURE, as i sat back and watched him strip a round out of the mag then procede to take that rifle down to parts in seconds!! and when he put it back together there was nothing left over and it worked. :)

nice kid.

Indeed the AR platform is super simple to maintain, disassemble, and reassemble. In fact, I have built about five over the last ten years. So to not suffer the military trigger, each has had its trigger replaced with drop in triggers including some very nice two stage numbers.

I have the same feeling about the M1 Garand. In high school Junior ROTC we were made to learn the Garand. And I too had to be able to field strip it and put it back together blind folded. It was another 30 years before I owned one and the memory of how to field strip it immediately came forth. I was amused when my son-in-law was somewhat perplex when I helped him tear down his first one. He now has several Garands and is able to handle field stripping himself.

I suppose it like bicycle riding: you never forget how even after years away from riding.
