i was just thinking from a legality standpoint. I know you can have a rifled short bbl pistol that happens to shoot shotgun shells, didn't know if you could have a smoothbore that shot non shotgun shells.
Legally you can't. Smoothbore is a shotgun. Don't matter whether it is chambered for shotshells or not, it is a shotgun and a barrel under 18 inches is NFA.
UNLESS, like shoulder-stock holstered broomhandles, it's been removed from the NFA list as a C&R. As, I'm fairly certain, the Liberator has been.
The replicas, that someone up the thread mentioned, are NOT C&R, and so I am positive they are made with a rifled barrel.
And, yes, you are correct. The original is smoothbore.
That is awesome. I am very interested in history and knew about the weapon, but I didn't realize that they could still be found. I am very impressed by your searching skills. Well done!
A few years ago, I saw some kind of TV show that showed a segment on manufacture of these. That machine was spitting them out to the tune of about one every few seconds.
Nice target pistol......er, sorry, signal gun. Not a bad price, did it come with the box?
