Firearms Import and Export made their living by importing cheap guns from Italy and Germany. Along came the Gun Control Act of 1968, which outlawed the importation of those cheap guns. FIE then imported the parts and put them together here in the states, which allowed them to mark the guns MADE IN USA, and get around the import ban.
So the gun was made in 1969 or later.
FIE filed bankrupt in 1990.
So somewhere in that 21-year period. I don't believe there are any records available to track it by serial number to a closer "made by" date.
You could try reading the entire thread. Like post #2, where I said it was a pistol, and post #4, where he said he knew that, and brain-farted when he wrote rifle.
