Does anyone shoot older .22 Mossberg rifles regularly?
Opinions ?

I still have my Mossberg single shot 22 I bought new in 1964. My son bought one that older than that at a gun show last year. Now he wants to collect them.

You should be getting plenty of responses today. I have a 144 LS, a 146 B with the peep sights, and another 144 B with a side mount and an old weaver scope. Hey, my eyes aren't what they used to be. My theory is that these model Mossbergs were quality rifles when new and taken care of appropriately. They are all very accurate. I just aim better with the scope.

I have a mossberg model 152 and I absolutely love it. It's in great condition with the original scope and sling. I can honestly say it's one of the most accurate .22s, if not the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. I have a ruger 10-22 as well and it doesn't shoot anywhere near as well as the mossberg. They just don't make them like they used to.

I own a CZ-452 Military Trainer,,,
This rifle is scary precise with Remington Mil-Surp ammo.

When my best friend and shooting buddy passed away last year,,,
Her brother gave me the rifle she used in the mid-60's on her high school rifle team.

It is a Mossberg 340KC bolt-action,,,
It's specs are very similar to the CZ-452,,,
The barrel lengths for both are virtually the same.

This 60+ year old rifle shoots groups just as tight as my brand new CZ-452.

Everyone that I know who has an old Mossie just loves them,,,
They really are examples of what quality materials and workmanship can produce.

I posted this on another thread but will repeat it here.

A 42M was the first gun I bought when I was 12, for $35 in 1962. I 'sporterized' it by losing the front wood and tapering the stock down, and mounted a sling swivel in the mag tube and put a military type sling on. It came with the side mount for the 3/4" scope. I eventually upgraded the 4x scope with a 3-6x variable and I can tell that it was/is a straight shooting gun, a real tack driver. I took some squirrels with that thing at some amazing distances. I made head shots at 75yds. For practice I would put a roofing nail in a fence board at 50yds and try to hit it, and I would. I learned more about precision shooting with that gun than with anything I've had since. I believe it had an adjustable trigger. I still have the gun but the release 'notch' or whatever it has on the bolt is rounded off such that it is unsafe to shoot and it seems that the bolt cannot be taken apart. A local gunsmith tried and buggered it up so he just set the trigger at about 10# as a cure... which is NOT a cure. I always kept it at a couple of lbs and loved it. I also have a 151K that is also a very straight shooter for a .22 and I'm told sought after as a .22 steel match shooting gun. You have a good gun there. I really like the ones that come in the military configuration with the target sights. They really are a great training gun for beginners who want to become true 'rifleman' and learn how to shoot iron sights before they go to the dark side of scopes....

I, sadly don't really have a place to shoot them. I have my dad's 144 LSB, that was his pride and joy, a Model 152 that I picked up at an auction for $20 and a Model 402 Palomino that I bought at another estate auction for $75. The only one that I have ever really got to shoot was dad's when I was a kid.

The little Model 152 semiauto carbine was my first Mossy, and the first gun I bought from a gunshow. That was back in the mid 90's. Since then she has welcomed six more siblings, all different models. The Model 42M is probably the best shooting, and sports a Marble-Goss aperture rear sight.
The Model 146B was rebuilt from a rusted ruin, when I bought it cheap from a range buddy. His Grandad had stashed it under his trailer for years. Thought it was ruined, but it cleaned up nicely, and today looks and shoots like new. My favorite squirrel rifle!
My oldest is a Model 26 singleshot.

Here are most of them:

Nice collection Bigdog! If the wind dies down today,I want to get out my old 42m and punch some holes in paper.Like you stated about your 42,mine is unbelievably accurate especially with Aguila .22 Target.I have some CCI Standard Velocity I'd like to try in it.It's kind of picky with ammo and I've tried quite a bit of different ones.Do you mind me asking what yours likes to be fed?.........Joe
