Folks,

Few questions come to mind concerning the Hi Power offered by Centerfiresystems. Looks like DOM is 1985 does that make it a MK II? Any idea of country of origin? I'm also wondering about markings, don't mind police or military rack numbers but Im concerned with placement of the import stamp. Who and where is it located. Overall I'm tempted at $429 but with FFL fees and shipping it quickly becomes a $500 pistol before I even get it to the range.

What are your thoughts

Here is what I get from the ad material:

Made in Europe by FN Belgium
It was made after 1964 as it is not a C&R (50 years old)
It probably is law enforcement or army because of the holster wear on the bluing
It is single action which I think also dates it (??)
I see an ambidextrous safety which also dates it
It was a lot import as the hammer style, lanyard ring, and grips vary from gun to gun
It comes with NO magazine so you have to add that cost to owning it

I have a clone Hi Power and wish I had bought the real thing. It took some doing to get it to where I enjoyed shooting it. Some parts were not interchangeable with the real thing like the barrel and the slide. The round hammer did terrible things during firing to the web of my hand. The magazine safety made a terrible trigger pull and was removed. Of course I had to do a trigger job on it but a new real new Browning Hi Power will really need that too! The sights were unusable for me for target shooting so they got changed too.

I bought the clone (Charles Daly) based on a significant price differential and that was a mistake. The gun you referenced would be a better choice than the Charles Daly but expect it to be only in "Good Condition". If I didn't already have the Charles Daly I'd buy that Hi power but I would understand that there was risk involved and appearance did not matter. If given a choice take a spur hammer variation if you like the web of you hand.

Don't get me wrong. I love Browning Hi Powers and would love to have an excellent condition earlier version with high gloss bluing.

I am waiting for "Black Friday", according to a slickguns ad the other day, Bud's gun shop is going to be selling the TISA's for $99. I do hope this is true and I can get hold of one. They are supposed to be a Turkish clone of the high power pistol. Even at $99 if it is a piece of crap, I would not have thrown a whole lot of money away.

I think he was looking at the "California Compliant" ones. No mags come with them, because the mags are too large. But 30 bucks cheaper.

As for "single action dating it", far as I know, ALL Hi-Powers are single action.

I agree, made 64 or later, from the picture. They had internal extractors up to 63, and the pic shows external ones.
