in reading the article in the question and answers section. 7.62 Tokarev through a Broomhandle? Dont do it!

it mentions Russian Tokarev guns being captured by Germans and then using German 30 Mauser ammo in those captured arms.

caught my intrest as ammo for th TOK is severly limited or expensive. Even brass for reloading is not available. Starline is only one still making brass for the TOK.

so question is has anyone on the forum shot the 30 Mauser in their 7.72 Tokarev? if so what were your impressions? I see the loadings for the Mauser is not as hot as the TOK. So am assuming it is well within the safty range of the firearm.

asking because it easier to find 30 Mauser right now.

artical was on page 106. December issue 2013. (current issue)

That's a new twist on an old question.;) As some Tok is loaded very similar to the Mauser and some is much hotter, the usual wisdom is don't shoot Tok in a broomhandle unless you are very confident that you have some of the softer stuff. (Nobody wants to damage a Broomhandle.) I suppose the answer to your question is there should be no danger the other way around. (Mauser in a Tok) I would guess that if the gun you use is set up for the hot ammo you might have some function problems, but that should be the worse of it.

As an aside I was recently given about 600 rds of various headstamped Torkarev. I have two C96 Mausers, but because I don't feel confident in the Tok loading, I picked up a CZ52 to shoot them in.......(Unfortunately they are all Berdan primed, so reloading is hardly worth it. I had thought of pulling them down and reloading for the Mausers, but for one shot each it sounded like too much work. (I already have an ample supply of reloadable 30 Mauser.)

I shoot 30 Mauser in my cz-52 Torkarev. NOT the Russian TT. And like you said the 30 Mauser ammo is nowhere near as hot as actual 7.62*25 Torkarev ammo. I have shot both. The Tork ammo from Sellior and Bellot it hard on the hand. Also, the reloadable brass I got from Star is marked 30Mauser. I just run it through the full length die and load away. Contrary to most pistols I've shot, the heavier the bullet you put through this gun, the more manageable the recoil. I'm currently shooting 115 gr lee cast bullets through it at about 1200 fps. Lot easier on the hand than factory. Hope this helps.
