Gentlemen (and any ladies out there), I need some help. I just turned 59 years old and have only been shooting handguns for about three years. Back in the Summer I discovered the NRA .22lr pistol quals and the club where I'm a member has an opportunity every 4 months to move up the NRA levels. In August I passed the first three levels which are all two-hand grip. But now I've got to shoot one-handed and have not made any appreciable improvement since I started training one-handed in September. I train at least two or three days per week, shooting 50 rounds per day and have been dry-firing on a regular basis. I determined that CCI Standard Velocity worked well in my Beretta Neos and have been using it consistently. I've got three weeks until the next opportunity to move up but I can't seem to get my scores out of the 50s and I've got to shoot in the 60s on B2 targets to move up. Any suggestions?

Keep the gun close to your body as long as possible before extending your arms to engage the target and also in between shots, this will help reduce fatigue, (even small guns get heavy fast)

Try to control your breathing, I like to inhale, then exhale to half breath as I extend, Some like to exhale completely as they extend, but thats a preference youll have to make.

I dont reccomend holding a full breath in, Its actually harder to hold a chest full of air than half full or empty...

If Im having a real tough time at the range, I sometimes actually time the small movements across the bulls eye and squeeze at the appropriate timing, just be sure not to jerk the trigger.

Another last resort is to line up your sights on the bulls eye, then take some slow breaths, with good breathing control you should be able to make your sight picture somewhat predictable as your slow breathing causes a small pattern back and forth across the sweet spot, but again timing it and squeezing are key...

Good luck and Good shooting.
