Ankle holster, which leg??

I purchased an ankle holster from crossbreed and realized that I really did not know which leg it should go on. I am a lefty and wondered if it goes on the left leg with the pistol on the outside leg, or does it go on the right leg with the pistol on the inside?

Both positions give good access to the gun. Unfortunately I can't really try it on now since it is suppose to be a gift from my mother in law for Christmas and have to wait until then. Suggestions would be helpful. It is for the Airweight 642 Smith and Wesson.

Most people prefer opposite inside ankle because it's usually the place most accessible without having to do anything overly unnatural. The "inside" of the lower leg also offers better concealment in most people.

Try these two experiments and they may help you may a more informed decision-

First- Quickly drop down to one knee- which knee is still up?

Second- Lay down on your back and get up as fast as you can-
Pay attention to your movements & position. When you are in your strongest & most balanced (centered) position, take note of which ankle you would have the most efficient access to.

For me- (a "righty"), it's when my left knee is up and my right leg is my base. It is the normal way I would drop down to get into a kneeling position and it is also the first knee up when I get up off the floor. So, this means I want my ankle holster on the inside of my left leg for the best access.

ETA- Some people who may be opposites in the strong arm/strong leg (ie- right handed/left legged), may find themselves kneeling or getting up the opposite of what I described. So, with them, it may be easier to have the ankle holster on the "outside"; so, it's more accessible for their "strong" hand.

Remember, in a SD situation, a scuffle or fight, we will revert to what we would most naturally & instinctively do. We need to know what that is and plan accordingly. Me, I will naturally use my weak side to defend; (ie; blade, block or "lock" up an opponent). I save my power side for offensive movements.

This means using the outside of my left leg is what I would have up in the guarded position if at all possible when scuffling on the ground with an opponent who had knocked me off my feet. I would also be using my left arm to deflect, block or tie up an opponent most likely.

All things considered, make the natural position for an ankle holster on the inside of my left leg.

I hope this helps-

I like the idea but the answer came to me while I was driving around in my truck. It will go on the left leg as it is free during driving.

Outside of leg means you'll be knocking the gun against objects. Some of them might be metal. Not good on the gun.

Occasionally I carry on my ankle with galco "police" holster (i think i dont quite remember what it is) but I carry inside opposite which seems to be the concensus here. I will say it makes it far easier to access when seated (driving) than iwb. Eventually I will carry my p238 on my ankle almost exclusively as a secondary when I can afford my next handgun to carry iwb or in a shoulder holster
