new truck gun

Since we'll be moving to the boonies here in a couple of months, my mind kinda swung towards getting a dedicated truck gun to go behind the seat of my old Chebbie 4x4. Didn't want to toss any of my AR's back there and the shotty needs to stay around the house in case the missus needs to dispatch something. Ran across a feller wanting to trade or sell this WASR 10/63 on Armslist and one of the things he was looking for was a base-model mid-length gas system AR.

Long story short is we worked out a swap, I got rid of my least-favorite AR that was kinda ammo-picky with the 1:7 twist barrel and got a 1975 stamped (trunnion anyways) WASR 10-63 from CAI with a Barska 1x30 red dot and 3x magnifier in a Fab Defense handguard, SAW grip and Tapco folding stock, with sling, the little soft case for hauling it around folded up, two steel mags, two Pmags, all full of ammo. He got my 2nd build, a 16" AR built on a New Frontier Armory polymer lower, a soft case, two mags, 120 rounds of ammo.

Sounds like a good deal on both parts but that Wasr 10/63 looks too nice to be a truck gun for me. I bought a Maverick 88 security from Texas Gun Trader for my truck gun. I already had one that I liked alot, but I keep it in my closet for home security. Paid the guy $100.00 and it came with a pistol grip and 30 rounds of waterproof military buckshot.

Good trade, as long as everyone is happy! And that is a nice looking AK. I've decided on an old beater SKS for my trunk. I already have plenty of the striper clips.

I've never seen an SKS with a 5 round magazine. All the ones I've ever seen are 10 rounds. And they can easily be converted to take 30 round AK mags. I saw a guy weld up some 10 round mags so they wouldn't open up, just a few tacks. He used them just like you would use any magazine. Hit the mag release, drop the empty, and reload with another mag.

I think you made a great trade. Especially if it was an AR that you weren't really attached to. Heck, by the looks of it in the picture, I don't know as though I'd use it as a truck gun. I've got an old beat up 7400 that looks like it's been through a war. Stock is beat to death and scratches all over the steel. But it still shoots straight and true. I mean this gun looks so rough, you wouldn't be able to find someone to give you $50 for it.

The AR had given me some fits and had less than 200 rounds through it due to a bad polymer lower receiver. By the time I figured out that it was flexing and hanging up the bolt carrier as it cycled I was about ready to just retire it as lesson learned. It did run fine after replacing the lower but the 1:8 had already claimed it's spot as my favorite. I keep the first build I did for testing loads, it's also a polymer lower but it's run 100% from day one and has close to 2k rounds through it now.

I had built the "trade" one to check out the mid-length gas system as well as a 1:7 twist, neither impressed me enough to stick with it, I had considered throwing another of Anderson's 1:8 barrels on it to get it to where it wasn't so finicky on 55gr loads. It loved my reloads of a 55gr Hornady with 26grs of BL-C2 behind it, but opened up considerably with most factory ammo with 55gr bullets. I'd like to have rifles that can shoot whatever I can get and it didn't fit the bill as it was.

It might be, I don't know who made it. There is no name on it at all, it says is patent pending. I bought it back before 1990, or so.

Sorry, I was trying to reply to carver, but the pic in the reply pushes the screen down so I can't see what I type, so I tried to reply right under his post, but others posted in the mean time and I got all discombobulated :)

Very nicely dressed wasr!

Carvers SKS is dressed nice too, just checking stock type.

Thanks
