if for some reason you could only grab 3 guns and had to leave your 'place', or heck, you stayed, but could only keep those 3 fir some reason , during the apocalypse, what are they, and why. No wring answers, just opinion and curiosity. For the sake of this discussion, an AR lower and 3 uppers counts as 3 guns.

me?

rifle with a scope and iron sights, prolly bolt.. Say.. My REM 700 30-06.

then a 12g pumpgun.. Will start as long bbl, but I might have a hacksaw in my bug out bag.. Dunno :).

lastly, pistol. Hard tossup between a 45 semi auto lil a balledter, or a big wheelhun, like my anaconda.

if I had an alt loadiut, a 45 acp pistol and carbint to share ammo and a shotgun.

really missing a 22lr in those load outs, so as a trade out, a 22lr pistol woul be my pistol option, push came to shove.

I've always liked that.

"Hey guys. Let's play a thinking-type game, here on the forum. I'll make up a scenario and lay down some rules, and y'all think about what you would do in THAT situation."

Then you get the people that want to play the game, but not by the rules you set out - "THREE GUNS AIN'T ENOUGH!!! I NEED AT LEAST FIFTEEN!!!!!!!!"

Or you get the people that post to tell you they will not play the game.

If you are not going to play the game, why did you post on the thread?:confused:

I have a question for those of you who have chosen the .22 pistol as one of only 3 guns you may have. Why? If you are going to choose a pistol, why not choose one that is much more versatile? .22LR ammo is light weight, so I assume you would have more of this than large caliber rifle ammo, or shot gun ammo. A large caliber pistol will take deer, hogs, cattle, or any thing else that you might could eat, a .22 pistol is not a good choice for SD, or feeding yourself!

I would disagree. A suppressed 22lr pistol and subsonic ammo would easily dispatch a cow once you walked up to it and put one in his noggin. Used to do this on my grand dads farm. Hogs too.

Sure, a centerfire pistol could be set up the same, but at a cost of additional weight. We are talking about multiple guns here.
If the choice was " only one gun and must be a pistol", then I would agree with you and pick something in a suppressed 9mm instead.
Then again, Im a better shot with my 2245 vs my 9mm sidearm.
In any case, the 2245 is plenty versatile when I have my rifle along, which wouldn't be left against a tree. In my younger days, I was ordered to keep my issued 27lbs machine gun with me everywhere I went. Same with an issued M14.
Its all about priorities of work right along with the need for security.....but that might just lead this topic astray.
IF I ever reach an age where I can't hump my rifle and ammo anywhere I wanna go at anytime, then my wife will just have to do it. (Lola)
In a survival situation or bugging out ordeal, shooting game would not be my 1st choice for securing food.

A .22 pistol? A rifle in .22 will get the job done, but only if you do your part. Still, a .357 mag, or a 44, or 45 will do a much better job.

A lot of things are possible, but that don't mean you have to try them!:D

I think it would be a trade off for firepower and weight. I found the following ammo weights:

Weight per 1000 rounds

.223 = 28 lbs
9mm = 26 lbs
.45 acp = 47 lbs
.22lr = 8 lbs
12 ga = 100 lbs
30-30 = 49 lbs
30-06 = 60 lbs
7.62 x 39 = 36 lbs

I think I would take a 22lr (6 lbs) rifle with 1000 rounds (8 lbs), a scoped mini-14 (7 lbs) and 500 rounds of .223/5.56 (14 lbs), and a 9mm (2 lbs) pistol with 250 rounds(7 lbs). That would give me give me a total weight of 44 lbs. With that I could carry about 25 lbs of food and water. Any more than that and I would have a stroke trying to carry it.

If anyone is planning to walk carrying their gear for a bug out situation, that person hasn't thought very far ahead. I very much enjoy backpacking, but I wouldn't consider it a long-term survival plan. You can't carry enough to keep moving for more than a couple weeks and still survive.

Most bug out situations are weather related: flood, hurricane, fire, etc. You want to move faster than walking. If you are worried about an EMP or nuclear attack and think you will need to move, you'd better have donkeys.

Three guns is perfectly realistic if you have a car, truck, or wagon. Without one of those, the plan ought to be to bug in.

Most Bob plans I see are designed around short term, like 72 hours, so that load in that time frame seems realistic. Bug out means something bad. Is, you can't bug in. Will likely be location dependent. Inner cities with no food supplwould be a place I would not bug in past a day or two, etc.

If I am home or close, I am already at my bugout spot and I do have more than 3 firearms. I don't travel much except for hunting and then I always carry my 9mm SA, my S&w 638, my Ruger mini14 and 10-22, a 12 gauge, and a 30'06 and .243. Truck has some ammo stored as well

In that case a sig sauer p238, mossberg 500 12 gauge, and my marlin 336 levergun in 30-30. If I could take any probably a sig 229 in 40, a ruger mini14 with bigger mags than 10 rounds, and a saiga 12

When I first read the question I thought it would be easy to answer. But after reading some of the answers I found that I had to put more thought into it. The first two were easy choices but the third one is where something has to be left out. If given another option or two it would include a 1911 and a pellet gun for quiet small game hunting.

1. Remington 700 chambered in .308 for targets that are further away.
2. An AR 15 chambered in 5.56 for higher rate of fire in fire fight situations.
3. My sons youth model 20 gauge with an assortment of slugs, buckshot and birdshot.

I've changed my choices so many times since I first posted,I'm not gonna post my new choices until a week has passed and I haven't changed it yet again.If I can find a 4-barrell drilling with one barrell 12ga smoothbore,one in .22,one in 30-06,and the last hole 12ga. rifled,then I know that would be one of the 3.
