Took my combo scope-rifle out of the box. Had to start back to scratch an do a complete set up on the scope. Going to write a letter after Christmas to Savage Arms and let them know they have poor quality assurance and quality control measures. Won't get me anywhere, but they should hear. May be if enough write, they might try a little harder.

I'm not sure i would trust a sight-in on a combo that went through shipping channels. Compound that with the idea I want to do it myself. Package combo to me simply means a better deal if I am OK using what ever scope they tossed on it.

Not that big a deal on putting a sight on. I just put 3 on my rifles and bore sighted them all in less than 2 hours. Need to get to the range to finish.

Never get a combo package on a lower priced firearm.
The package is slapped together . And almost never bore sighted nor are the screws torqued to spec.
If you do get a package deal, look for the tags from the equipment installed. For example, if the rings are Weaver then there should be a weaver tag in the box. If you have a Bushnell scope , then there should be a Bushnell warranty card (very important). If you don't have the tags , then you may be getting third party equipment installed on your rifle.
It is very common to get a third party scope such as a Bushnell that is made under licence for Bushnell that doesn't carry the lifetime warranty.
So please be carefull and check for the tags on your new combo rifle.

Was it loose? Not in the right position to your eye?

My friend might be getting an Axis II xp package, I told him to just get the rifle and get your own base mount, rings, and scope. Figured it'd save a lot of headache to sight it in once.
You name it, it was all off. The only thing that would be ok to be off would be the eye relief as that should be ball parked to the greater average audience physical parameters.

I learned my lesson about combos. Bought a Mossberg and could not get it to group. Changed ammo and groupings just got worse. Then discovered that not one mounting screw was tight.
After proper torquing, it has turned out to be a great shooter for hunting.

I bought a CVA Wolf combo a while back. The first thing I did was pull the scope and make sure the mount (in this case it was a rock solid mount, not rings) was properly affixed to the rifle. Surprise!!! (NOT) the screws were no where near tight.
Anytime you buy a combo take the extra steps to make sure things are as they should be.
Think about it.... the person that put that together probably makes minimum wage and is constantly told do more in less time........besides the fact they could most likely care less if the screws are tight...its on the gun move on to the next one.........
