RCBS Case Kicker

In another thread there was some mention about the now obsolete RCBS Case Kicker. I thought I would throw up this old video of a version a friend of my made me.

This was the initial test run. I've adjusted it a touch farther back from the press so it doesn't cover the ram/shell holder as much. Which means it lets you put the shell in the shell holder without having to raise the ram as far as I do in this video. Also, I hung a coffee can on the edge of my bench and instead of using the primer tray to catch the shells, I have a built a little Masonite ramp for the shells to slide down into the can.

That's neat.

I kinda think that it's like Jeff Cooper said about DA automatics, though. An ingenious solution to a non-existent problem. I don't see the need for it. But it's neat to watch.

The only need it added speed. It's much faster to just grab the next case and slide on the shell holder if the old shell is already in the coffee can hanging next to the press, rather than having to pull the old shell out of the press first.

The video doesn't do it justice as it was a very early proof of concept type of thing. When it's all adjusted, with the coffee can and out feed ramp installed, it makes processing brass wicked fast. When you get your rhythm down, the press never really stops moving.

That said, I don't use it when I'm decapping as it's not compatible with the primer catching tray, or the plastic dome I use keep the bouncing primers in the tray. So really I only use it when I run my tumbled brass through the sizing die, and when I seat/crimp my pistol cartridges. I flair and prime at the same time, so it just gets in the way of that operation.

Nice little add-on Jesse17. As with anything reloading additional speed comes a price, unless you make it yourself. I noticed an aftermarket version "RCK" has picked up where RCBS left off. I may put this on my long list of hop ups for the bench once I remount the JR2. Thanks for posting this, I had no idea such a tool exists.
