Yes. Remington(or their owner) bought Marlin, H&R, New England Firearms, and LC Smith back in 2007/2008.
Serial numbers A-Z, AA-AZ, BA-BC are from 1940 to 1986.
When H&R was reformed in 1987 they started a new series of serial numbers HA-HY for H&R, and NA-NY for NEF. HY/NY serial numbers are 01/2008 to 05/2008. After that the serial numbers start as CBA for a SB2 receiver and CAC for SB1 receivers - and you cannot determine year of production with the CBA/CAC serial numbers.
Note: H&R did skip some letters because of the close resemblance to numeric characters and other reasons. Some skipped = "O", "Q", "AI", "AK", "AO", "AQ", "AV"
Thanks for the advice! I researched the serial number and found out that it was manufactured in 1972. Its not necessarily valuable as far as money is concerned, but I appreciate it because it was my grandfather's.

Thanks, knight0334! I learn something new every day this way!
