Hello friends, I am considering getting a new rifle, and would like some information, reviews, or general experiences as to what is a good 45ACP Carbine, and which ones to avoid.
I have a negative review from my brother regarding the Berretta Storm. He said it kicked badly and twisted on every shot making follow-ups problematic. Can anyone confirm this? All information would be appreciated, however I want 45 ACP Carbine (rifle) info. only.
I've had my Hi Point 4595TS for some time now, and it literally does go bang every time. One time I decided to see how long it would go without cleaning it. I ran about 500-700 rounds through it over a couple months until I finally had one failure to eject with Tula steel case because of so much carbon buildup. I cleaned it back up, and bang, bang, bang... Their customer service and warranty center is pretty much no questions asked if you are the original owner. They even do warranty work on second and third hand guns. Check on gunwatcher and you might catch one for $250 or less (before ffl fees.)
I've never owned a Hi Point, and probably never will. The reason is the resale value, and I still remember what my Grand pappy told me years ago.....( Son, don't buy no ugly gun) and that was his dying words.
The Beretta storm 45cal is a good PCC if you understand it's intended function. Hard to understand anyone complaining about the "recoil", it's a mild nudge. Theses are not benchrest target guns they are however more than accurate enough for the intended function. 2" to 3" @ 50 yArds is likely from a rest and ringing 12" steel at 100 yards offhand not thAt hard. No these are not long range guns 50 yards and under imo but depending on the load will be 6" to 18" low at 100 yards with a 50 yard zero depending on the load. Maintenance is easy as disassemble and reassembly is a snap. The only real downside IMO..........only 8 round mags are available. Some complain about the trigger, it's a little heavy. To me for the weapons intended purpose, close range self defense, its fine. Far better for its role than a light "target" trigger. It's a 8 shot, easy to maintain, reliable 3" @ 50 yards low recoil self defense carbine. If you want to Ninja it up with red dots lasers, lights it is easily done. $600 seems to be the market price at this time. The looks put some off, one buddy calls it the Planet of the Apes gun.....ugly perhaps but it functions beautifully.
I like the Beretta CX4, I had one in 9mm when they first came out. I have been eyeing the .45 one that my LGS has but just don't have the money. I have thought about doing some trading but don't have anything I want to get rid of!!!
You mentioned that it only has 8 round magazines, does it use 1911 mags or do you have to buy a special magazine for it?

It uses a Beretta Cougar pistol mag. As one would expect from Beretta well made mags. The fella I got it from told me that higher capacity mags were going to be made soon, that was quite a few years ago...............still waiting. I also had a Masterpiece Arms 45acp carbine, think Mac10 with skeleton stock, 16" barrel and are AR foregrip. It used grease gun mags. That solved the capacity issue but..........It was heavy and about as ergonomic as shouldering a cinder block. Capacity is good but its not the whole package by a long shot. The Masterpiece was traded off on a nice Rossi 92 357 and the storm is still here. It is not leaving high cap or not.
Back when I had the 9mm version, there was a company that made aftermarket 30 round mags for the 92F, which is what it used. I bought several of them from CDNN for $9 each.
A thread from a while ago, however; after a few range sessions, I can now offer my endorsement on the 'High-Point 45ACP Carbine'. Short breaking in period, then just plain reliable, accurate, and fun to shoot. (AND AMERICAN MADE) After break in period, it 'ate' everything I fed it.
I bought the Hi-Point carbine in 9mm, and it rocks right out of the box! Dead nails accurate with iron sights, and the first 200 rounds went bang every time. I'll let you know if I get any glitches with the second 200 rounds, when I shoot 'em!
I know this might sound kind of crazy, but I have been thinking seriously about selling my Thompson 1927A1 and buying a High Point carbine in .45 or more likely a Beretta CX-4 Storm!!
Only negative I have seen is the unorthodox breakdown for cleaning. But there are Youtube videos showing step by step instructions available free.
